Twist Bioscience
Twist Bioscience will offer every team up to 10 kb of FREE Twist Gene Fragments* during the 2021 iGEM Competition.
* Twist Gene Fragments synthesized up to 1.8 kb length, total length for all fragments up to 10 kb
Make sure you get your DNA for free! Here are some important notes to keep in mind when ordering your DNA:
First
Ensure Twist Bioscience can synthesize your sequences
Check and optimize your sequences on Twist Bioscience’s online ordering platform. This tool analyzes your sequences and will highlight any potential issues. Follow the detailed instructions below to check whether your sequences are ready for synthesis.
Next
When your sequences are optimized, send them to us by email
Export your optimized sequences from the online ordering platform.
Email them to
igemquestions@twistbioscience.com
with an email titled
“iGEM free DNA for [your team name] from [country]”.
Please include your complete shipping address in the email.
Finally
Receive your Free Twist Gene Fragments
Our team will reply within 1 working day to obtain your shipping information. Our scientists will kick off the synthesis of your DNA sequences, and ship them to you within 6 - 9 business days*.
*Turnaround time applies to Europe and USA and are estimates. Teams outside these regions may be subject to longer delivery times. Our support team will be able to provide an accurate estimated delivery time.
The deadline for ordering FREE DNA is October 8, 2021
A Step-by-Step approach to getting your FREE FRAGMENTS
Step 1:
Sign up for Twist’s online ordering platform here.
For teams logging in from China - Please refresh the page if the link does not work
Step 2:
On the “What Can Twist Build For You?” page, select “Genes”. Name your project and click “Start New Project”. On the next page click “Order Now” under "Gene Fragments" to get started.
Step 3:
Select “Nucleotide Sequence” and “Manual Import” to go to the sequence input screen or upload your sequences directly.
Step 4:
Paste in your sequences and click “Continue” to upload them into the sequence checking tool. The tool will begin analyzing your sequences immediately.
Step 5:
If your sequences show a green circle, they are ready to go - skip to Step 7. If they show a black circle, there is an issue - proceed to Step 6.
Step 6:
Optimize your sequences with our sequence optimization tool. Contact the Twist Support Team (customersupport@twistbioscience.com), or click the link to the chat box on our online ordering platform if you have questions about the sequence optimization process. Make sure to tell us you are participating in iGEM so we can offer the best possible support.
Step 7:
Once you have optimized your sequences, save them to update your sequence list
Step 8:
Select all of your sequences, click on "Download Sequences" at the top of the page, and click “csv” to download your sequences.
Step 9:
Send this CSV file to igemquestions@twistbioscience.com in an email titled “iGEM free DNA for [your team name] from [country]”. Please include your full name, your mailing address, your phone number, and your preference of Gene Fragments with or without adapters to ensure rapid processing of your request. Please include your complete shipping address in the email or your order may be delayed.
REMEMBER: DON’T CLICK “CHECKOUT” or you will not be able to access your free gene fragments.

TWIST IS TRANSFORMING THE SAMPLE SUBMISSION PROCESS
This year iGEM is partnering with Twist Bioscience so teams no longer need to send physical DNA samples to the Registry. Instead, teams will submit their sequences and accompanying data and Twist will handle the synthesis of your submitted parts.
To learn more, visit iGEM’s sample submission page.
At Twist Bioscience, we work in service of customers who are changing the world for the better. In fields such as medicine, agriculture, industrial chemicals, and data storage, Twist’s customers are using our synthetic DNA tools to develop ways to live healthier, more sustainable lives, and improve the overall health and sustainability of the planet.
Twist Bioscience synthesizes DNA from scratch utilizing a proprietary semiconductor-based synthetic DNA manufacturing process. This process, known as “writing” DNA, features a high-throughput silicon platform capable of producing a diverse offering of DNA-based products and solutions. Twist Bioscience’s DNA writing technology uses the same chemical and molecular biology reagents as the conventional approach to synthesizing DNA, but miniaturizes the reaction volumes by orders of magnitude. By synthesizing DNA on silicon instead of on traditional 96-well plastic plates, this platform overcomes the current inefficiencies of synthetic DNA production and enables cost-effective, rapid, high-quality, and high-throughput DNA synthesis to accelerate research and development.
Twist’s synthetic DNA can be used to power a myriad of applications, and Twist has built a number of DNA-based product portfolios to enable researchers to reimagine and engineer biology to find answers to some of the biggest challenges we face on earth.
