Parts Registry
Welcome to the iGEMers' starter guide to the Registry of Standard Biological Parts.
The iGEM Registry is a growing collection of genetic parts that can be mixed and matched to build synthetic biology devices and systems. As part of the synthetic biology community's efforts to make biology easier to engineer, it provides a source of genetic parts to iGEM teams and academic labs.
The Registry contains an immense amount of information that has aggregated over the past 15 years, and we understand it can be daunting at first. Daunting as it is, understanding the function and purpose of the iGEM Registry is absolutely necessary for teams.
We have put together this guide as a starting point for iGEMers' participating in the competition. While this guide won't tell you everything about the Registry, our intention is to point out the most useful places to start, including the Registry's own help pages.
