Collaboration

1.Questionnaire collaboration with SMS_Shenzhen

In the field of social research, we cooperated with SMS on questionnaire modification. Revise it based on our draft questionnaire. When we stepped into the stage of designing questionnaires of product demand research. We afraid that there might be some problems with our wordings, especially for some inappropriate expressions. Therefore, we cooperate with SMS. This is the first draft of our quetionnaire:

The communication process

The SMS school team gave us some suggestions.

  • Add a confidentiality commitment in our questionnaire to make sure the safety of interviewees' private information
  • Narrow down the range of options for the age question(change the question type from gap-filling to multiple-choice).
  • Add“This questionnaire takes about 1-2 minutes”to the introduction part of the questionnaire.
  • Change the question types or add some extra options for some in order to get more precise information.

The detailed communication process can be seen below

The questionnaire after the modification

After getting SMS's suggestions, we took their advice seriously. We found that it is true that we need to make our questionnaire questions more moderate and precise. Since the main goal of this questionnaire is to find out the thoughts of the public. Therefore, we made a new version after careful considerations. And this is the second version of the questionnaire:

Reflection and gain during collaboration

During the cooperation process, we gained a lot. We learned how to get information from others without infringing on their privacy. Also, we learned how to design a demand research questionnaire by communicating via SMS. This experience not only allowed us to have clear ideas about survey designs, but also brought us good partnerships with the other school. Also see our collabortion at Collaboration of SMS_Shenzhen

2.Project sharing meeting

On September 21st, IGEM 2021 teams GreatBay_SZ, SDSZ_China, SZ-SHD, NDNF_China, Yucai, and our GCGS jointly held a seminar on the experience sharing of Human practices activities.

Many things are remarkable. SDSZ_China introduced an experience, which is to create an independent email account in the name of the team to contact stakeholders. We used to have difficulty integrating email information because we did not have an official email account for the team. We often used team members’ email account. So this point raised by SDSZ_China is very enlightening.

In addition, we think that the idea of human practices activity is relatively new from the team SZ-SHD. They participated in the Suzhou Beauty Convention at the middle stage and did on-site surveys. First of all, they can find such opportunities in other cities. It is very rare to participate in it. Secondly, they achieved a public survey that escaped the circle of relatives and friends. As the SDSZ_China team said, the popular survey that we are relatively easy to do is a questionnaire, and spreading the questionnaire through our own team members’ social media will have the limitation that the questionnaire can’t escape the circle of friends and relatives, and SZ-SHD’s Beauty Convention Offline surveys make public survey results more relevant and reliable

Based on the experience introduced by these teams, we decided to observe the details of the public's life in the later stage, such as visiting the market of the aquatic product to learn more about the voices of practitioners and consumers
.
In the Q&A session at the end of the conference, because the educational activities carried out by the teams are of different ages, we also discussed the issue of the selection of education targets. The original idea of our GCGS is that all five classes will be conducted for junior high school students in our school. However, based on your suggestions and considerations of epidemic prevention and control, firstly, online self-media releases will attract more public attention, and secondly, online comments will be collected and this allows us to get more written feedback. We adjusted the education activity to four online recorded courses combined with one offline course to enhance interactivity.

This human practices experience sharing meeting not only allowed us to learn about the projects of other teams and enhanced communication but also helped us improve the later stage human practices and education activities plan.

In the meeting, we each shared our team’s experience, gains in the development of Human practices. We also shared some difficulties we've faced and given some advice. We all hoped we could learn something from each other and other teams could also avoid the problems we've met. See the collaboration also at SDSZ_China and Yucai_SZ.
