Partnership
In 2020, we organized a meetup conference, and met the members of CSMU_Taiwan. In 2021, CSMU_team invite us to take part in an online meetup conference they held, and shared the experience of holding the conference with them. After intensive discussion and cooperation, the online conference was successful, teams prticipnted in this activity including NCKU_Tainan, NYCU-Taipei, NCTU_Formosa, CCU_Taiwan, and NTHU_Taiwan.
During the conference, Teams will ask each other questions. Through this process, we knew more about each other project, and also learned how to answer the questions more specifically, making everyone can easily understand our project. We hope every team can fulfill their project and make all the dreams come true!
Below are the questions they ask and our replys.
Q: Is there any possibility that the bacteria will pollute the environment? (NCKU)
A: When our project implements in the real world, we plan to filter out the recombinant Bacillus
subtilis, inoculate Oryza sativa only with supernatant, avoid bacteria affecting the environment.
Q: What kind of model orgasm will be used in your project? Is it possible to survive in soil? (NTHU)
A: We use Bacillus subtilis in our project.
We have found Bacillus RM125/PQQ in the soil three days after inoculation, and we are still
researching whether it can survive more than three days.
Q: What is the mechanism of PQQ to stimulate plants’ growth?(NCTU)
A: PQQ enhances the conversion of lactate to pyruvate. Pyruvate is the source to produce ATP This is
the reason why it can stimulate plants' growth
Q: What is the efficiency of the bacteria to degrade such a huge amount of wastes (NCKU)?
A: Our cellulosome decomposes 13%(weight ) rice stalks, and the rest straws which was not decomposed
will accumulate as part of the fertilizer and become fertilizer.
Q: What part of rice will you use to construct the experiments? (NTHU)
A: In our project have two parts. In the first part, rice straws will be decomposed and produce
saccharified straws liquid. In the second part, the whole rice will be experiments material for
plants growth promotion test.
Q: Do the two bacteria affect each other?(CSMU)
A: Sorry, I couldn’t understand the two kinds of bacteria you point out. But, if you point the
bacteria which can degrade cellulose and produce PQQ, in the process of our experiment, we were not
put them in the same position to act, so they will not effect each other.
Q:Can PQQ be an effective fertilizer? What are the advantages and disadvantages compared with normal
fertilizers? Is there a more productive approach? (CCU)
A:PQQ isn’t fertilizer because it won’t show disease when plants have a shortage of it, we call it a
growth promoter. Compared with fertilizer, PQQ can improve plant phenotype like leaves No. and shoot
height under the same soil fertility. According to our research, we find that PQQ might shorten the
time of plant growth and we think that is valuable enough.
We also ask other teams some questions:
Q: May I ask the ingredient which constitutes MenTAUR?(NCHU)
A: This is a bubble made by calcium alginate and including E. coli.
Q:If you trying to create a new kind of pine against Bursaphelenchus sp. in the forest, but now most
of the pine forest can not deal with this problem. Do you have any way to deal with the problem of
the current forest? (NCHU)
A:We intend to utilize community immunity to protect the rest of the trees. If planted at the right
place, few transformed pine trees can achieve community immunity.
