Overview

Given that safety played a pivotal role in lab, we adopted some strategies to ensuring the safety while performing our experiments. We took biosafety into account when we designed our project. our lab’s safety regulations and national guidelines we followed are mentioned bellow.

Project

All materials we used in our project were strictly chosen and belonged to Risk Group one or two, which weren’t detrimental to the human body or environment.
Generally speaking, our project is performed with very low risks, as no pathogenic bacteria or hazardous chemical reagent is used during the experiments. Apart from this, as for implementing our project in real world, the product would satisfy the requirement of safety concern.
We used ddH2O and serum buffer to simulate the patient's blood environment, and did not use human blood samples. Even if you want to use human blood in the future, you have received support and guidance from blood centers and hospitals, and there are a series of guidelines to prevent pollution.

Lab

Everyone in our lab has received comprehensive safety training before embarking on experiments. For instances, we must wear experimental gloves and safety goggles properly while doing experiments. Besides, all of us were familiar with the relevant safety regulations and stuck to them in the supervision of our advisors as well as PI.
The reagents and instruments we used were correctly labelled and placed, in accordance with guidelines.
When our experiment was completed, we would dispose of chemical and biological waste properly to avoid the potential risk in laboratory.

Guidelines

All our laboratory experiments carried out are regulated by General guidelines for Biosafety in Microbiology and biomedical laboratories (China CDC). Besides, we also state our lab’s safety regulations we must follow. These included, but were not limited to, the following aspects.

(1) Responsible individuals
(2) Fire safety
(3) Security regulations of electricity
(4) Safety rules of hazardous chemical reagents, ranging from the purchase to storage
(5) Correct disposal of chemical and biological wastes
(6) Biological safety
