2021 iGEM Leiden team
Meet the team members! Our international team consists of twelve highly motivated students from various disciplines. Together we are therefore able to create an exciting project with multiple viewpoints. To ensure our plans stay realistic, we are supervised by two principal investigators, five supervisors and eleven advisors.
2021 iGEM Leiden team
Bas van Woudenberg: Bas is a master's student in Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology at Leiden University. He loves the idea of solving world problems with synthetic biology. He looks forward to further developing himself as a scientist and a team player during the iGEM adventure as the Experimental design manager.
Chanel Naar: Chanel is a master's student in Biomedical Sciences at the Leiden University Medical Centre. She is intrigued by the intercross of science, business and management, which she wanted to explore further by taking part in iGEM. The role of team manager is, therefore, a great fit.
Ehsan Razaghi Siahroudi: Ehsan is a Bachelor Biomedical Sciences student at the Leiden University Medical Center. He wants to learn from various aspects of the project, while keeping an oversight and making sure various components form a cohesive project. Hence, the project management role is a perfect fit for Ehsan.
Giovi Duivenvoorden: Giovi is currently a student in the masters Bioinformatics and Biotechnology at Wageningen University, but just finished her bachelors Life Science & Technology at Leiden University & TU Delft. Her interest in the informatics oriented parts of biology is a good fit for the role of modeling manager, which provided some additional results to the wet lab work.
Hoda Ekhlasi: Hoda is a master's student in Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology at Leiden University. She joined iGEM not only to expand her knowledge in synthetic Biology, but also to be part of this diverse community and get to know people. She always enjoys working in the lab so being the lab and safety manager would be the best chance for her!
Igor van der Meulen: Iggy is a student in the bachelor Life Science & Technology at Leiden University and the TU Delft. Iggy is especially interested in the intersection between science and practical applications of the developed knowledge. This curiosity also suits his role as the Product Design and Entrepreneurship manager, since he is mainly focussed on the implementation of the project into society.
Iris Noordermeer: Iris is a master's student in Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology at Leiden University. Iris is good at collaborating and likes to communicate with other people. She enjoys reaching out to companies to seek sponsors and promote our crowdfunding. Therefore, her role as our finance manager fits her very well.
Jetse van Os: Jetse has recently finished his bachelor Molecular Science & Technology at the Leiden University and the TU Delft and will soon start his master Chemistry in Leiden. Being more of a chemist than a biologist, he understands how difficult it can be for outsiders to understand synthetic biology. As the design manager, he aims to simplify abstract concepts into figures that are comprehensible for everyone.
Lisa Kleinjan: Lisa has just finished the bachelor Life Science & Technology at the universities of Leiden and Delft. She loves to look at a project from different perspectives. Therefore, the role of Human Practices Manager is a great opportunity to learn from different stakeholders and take the project to the next level.
Quint van Loosen: Quint is a master student in Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology at Leiden University. He has a bachelor's degree in Biomedical sciences and seeks to connect different fields with interdisciplinary science. His passion is building bridges between scientists and the public, making science more accessible. This makes him the perfect fit for the Public Engagement & Education manager of this iGEM team!
Sebastiaan Ketelaar: Sebastiaan is a master's student in molecular genetics and biotechnology at Leiden University. Doing iGEM has been a great opportunity for him to explore if he wants to pursue a career in synthetic biology and he has been loving it so far. He has the role of communications manager and helps to maintain the social media and e-mail.
Siheng Li: Siheng is a master student in molecular Genetics and biotechnology at Leiden University. He enjoyed processing experimental data and presenting results. Therefore, the role of data analysis manager fits him well. As an international student, participating in iGEM also gives him a great opportunity to meet more people.
