Overview
iMudo is a sub-team of 2021 BNU-China, who is mainly responsible for the development and teaching practice of iGEM related courses and derivative courses. In order to expand the influence of educational practice and better publicize iGEM competition and synthetic biology knowledge, we have cooperated with Beijing Normal University Education Group to ensure the smooth implementation of the courses.
Team formation
The core members of iMudo team are mainly from 2021 BNU-China team , also including a non-iGEM team member. Tang Yue, vice captain of BNU- China team in 2021, is the team leader, and has signed a cooperation treaty with Beijing Normal University Education Group. The team consists of five functional departments: administration, human resources, research and development, marketing, finance and procurement, each of which is responsible for related work.
Course development
The courses developed by iMudo mainly include iGEM-related courses and derivative courses, which have now entered the incubation stage, and will be further developed by iMudo team members and teachers recruited by iMudo team.
Teacher recruitment
iMudo team plans to recruit a number of teachers to work together on curriculum development and teaching practice.
The outlook for the future
iMudo is a unique attempt of the 2021 BNU-China team in the field of education, aiming at providing a wide range of biology-related teaching for more primary and secondary school students.

Functional Department
iMudo group has five functional departments: Administration Department, Human Resources Department, Research and Development Department, Marketing Department, Finance Department and Purchasing Department.
Administration Department
The Administration Department is responsible for all administrative affairs of iMudo group, including group culture propaganda, group internal network management and group external website operation. In addition, the administration department is also responsible for the group's external public relations, such as relations with other iGEM teams, investors and customers.
Human Resources Department
The work of the Human Resources Department mainly includes recruitment and member management. The HR department shall recruit new members according to relevant regulations of iMudo. In addition, the Human Resources Department needs to establish and implement a reasonable personnel management system to stimulate the enthusiasm of team members.
R&D Department
R&D Department is responsible for curriculum development according to market demand. The course content is mainly synthetic biology, supplemented by other interest courses, such as handicrafts and photography.
Marketing Department
The Marketing Department is responsible for investigating the market demand, that is, the needs of schools and students, so as to facilitate the R&D Department to carry out relevant work. In addition, the marketing department is responsible for the investigation and analysis of customer satisfaction, so that we can provide better service to customers.
Finance Department
The Finance Department is mainly responsible for fund management and financial analysis. Specifically, it is necessary to prepare financial plans, carry out bookkeeping and accounting of daily income and expenditure, and prepare financial statements.
Purchasing Department
The Purchasing Department needs to formulate a purchasing plan according to the operational requirements of iMudo Group, and purchase goods as planned to ensure the normal daily work of iMudo Group.
Social Responsibility
BNU-China is deeply concerned about the development and innovation of education, the possible application of synthetic biology in education, and the social value of the combination of synthetic biology and education. We felt a strong responsibility for contributing Chinese wisdom to educational innovation by creating a new way to popularize and develop synthetic biology, and thereby discover new value for the human society.
iMudo cooperated with Beijing normal university education group to recruit talents for curriculum development, give full play to individual and collective wisdom, explore and create new possibilities in the field of education, and provide opportunities for those who love education and science to participate in curriculum development. Participants will brainstorm freely according to their disciplines and experiences. After communicating with professionals and conducting preliminary market research, they chose the course theme and developed open and phased courses under the guidance of professionals. In this process, participants can get access to professional knowledge related to curriculum development, deepen their educational research experience and understanding of the relationship between education and science, and contribute their own ideas to the innovation and development of education.
We introduced synthetic biology-related courses into primary and secondary schools, and promoted the development of disciplines, education and teaching by integrating synthetic biology with education.
We planed to recruit iGEM teams all around the world for classroom teaching, so as to provide a new platform for iGEM educational practice, and promote communication between iGEM teams as well as the educational exchange on a global scale.
While paying attention to the development of education, iMudo has also been actively exploring the educational assistance for people. To a certain extent, our business content has created more employment opportunities for the society, provided internship opportunities for more people, and produced various publicity effects. Overall, it has played a positive role in both social economy and people’s everyday life.
The future of iMudo
iMudo is an educational platform, which provides curriculum resources for elective courses and recruits relevant teachers. So far, iMudo has successfully established tacit cooperation with the Education Group of Beijing Normal University. At present, we only recruit students from Beijing Normal University and members of the BNU-China team. In the future, we will further expand our recruitment range, which means that we will recruit other iGEM team members and students from other universities. We are committed to providing a platform for students who want to be teachers in the future, enriching the education modules of the iGEM team, and also enhancing educational and pedagogical communication in a long term.
Our courses will be further diversified. We will use innovation to broaden access to public demand, and develop more acceptable, valuable and potential courses. After the course officially enters the classroom, we will carry out evaluation for the course by collecting questionnaires and conducting offline communications. After one incubation period, we will optimize the existing curriculum design based on big data analysis.
In the future, we will further strive for cooperation and obtain more support to further promote our achievements in entrepreneurship development and bring high-quality courses to all parts of the country, covering from first-tier cities to backward villages. We will continue to prove the important role of synthetic biology in international educational exchanges.
