Nicola PORDONE

BusinessmanWhen I first heard of iGEM (back in highschool many moons ago), I instantly knew that I wanted to be a part of it and this year I got to be a part of an amazing team. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry and will soon be an engineer in Biotechnology. To me, iGEM represents a great opportunity to put my skills into practice and collaborate with young aspiring scientists all around the world.

BusinessmanAs a member of the iGEM 2020 team and future engineer in biotechnology, I scaled up my challenge this year by checking an item off my bucket list. It is my first time participating in such a great scientific competition. Since I started my studies in Biotechnologies, I always wanted to be a member of a scientific club in order to make awesome things in biology. I’m very excited to see what we are going to accomplish this year.

Wetlab / EventsFirst post on Facebook… I didn’t react. Then, second post, the team was looking for more members to join the team, and eventually some trainees. Working on mosquitoes, current problems, impacting almost the whole world. Now I’m interested! I wanted to be part of something bigger than me. Being with other students and leading our own project is exciting! Moreover, it echoes my biology studies.

WetlabBorn for biology, I had heard about IGEM for several years, but without really taking an interest in it. But while I was doing my thrid year of Bachelor’s in Biochemistry in Sweden, the iGEM team recruited members for the laboratory experiments. I took advantage of the opportunity and joined the team, it's a great experience that allowed me to put the lessons into practice.

I have always loved biology and the fantasy world. When I first heard about synthetic biology I thought it was the perfect combination of both. That's why when I heard about iGEM, I immediately decided to take part in this fantastic project.
