Team:Shanghai Metropolis/Collaborations

1- Aseeker (Shanghai_United)

Our team have Collaborated with another iGEM team named Aseeker. Our collaboration is mainly through mutual understanding of each other's content and mutual advice to promote the process of both project. The central theme of the team's research is arsenic. Their research focuses on making dipsticks to detect arsenic and hopes to make the final product commercially available. They told us arsenic compounds, which are harmful to humans, have long been a problem for biological science. Testing for arsenic has become a central goal. In addition, they also explained their team's name: As is the chemical symbol for arsenic, while the name Ark stands for ark and hope. They are working on using genetic technology to create sensors based on e. coli to detect arsenic.

During the whole discussion, EV71terminator and Aseeker illustrated the challenges and effective methods we have met in the research and human practice. After being informed of the fact that the secondary product implies a potential business value, that is, the by-product of the bacteria probably is cable of eliminating the residual arsenic, whose accumulation is harmful for human body. We consulted whether Aseeker would devote more time and financial resources into the R&D of the product, so as to gain some informative suggestions that might be helpful in future determination. It turned out that Aseeker is intended to focus more on their main product. Moreover, EV71terminator also offered us experiences related to human practice, such as field research, interview of the authority and charity bazaar. From the discussion, we were exposed to several new points of view, and able to increase the efficiency in future practice.

2- Neuron Target (Nanjing_high_school)

The second Chinese team that we collaborated with was from Nanjing, and their name is Neuron Target. The subject is also of medical interest, and the product is a compound that can be found to address the inflammatory response caused by activated microglia.

We were fortunate to participate in the presentation of Neuron Target's team. They showed us what they were working on and what they were aiming for. At the same time, the team also showed us the daily life of the team lab. We got to know each other, and discussed many topics such as product development and promotion, cooperation between dry and wet teams, etc. Since our research direction is related to medicine, the audience will be similar. By taking this opportunity, we learned a lot of knowledge about business promotion from each other. In the end, we paid attention to each other's propaganda platform, and hoped to carry out further cooperation in the future.

3- FlavoneLabRouse (Shanghai_HS_United)

We also had a meet-up with FlavoneLabRouse(Shanghai_HS_United). They indtroduced their project and ideas to us, which we thought were very intriguing. And we shared our conception of implementation for our final product (oral vaccine without refrigerated conservation). Then they talked about flavonoid's current situation in the mareket and their final product, yogurt with FLR enzyme. Our discussion with FlavoneLabRouse truly inspired us to consider further the safety aspects of our final product and the future promotion methods.
