Overview

At 2021 Central China iGEM meetup, we were pleased to find that both of us used Blue Light as the switch for our systems. Therefore, we agreeed to do further communication and cooperation as our project progressing. The similarity of the project gives us a lot of room for collaboration. We exchange our own insights for both projects and try to solve the designing and modeling problems encountered in each other's projects. And we communicate on some physical experimental questions in the laboratory. Moreover, we collaborate to do publicity and education activities based on the common part of our project. And we had acquired more feedback from communities.

In this way, we are lucky to establish a long-span and in-depth partnership with CSU_CHINA team. (Click here to CSU_CHINA's Partnership page)

Activities

2.1 Online Meetup

On August 24, 2021, two teams agreed to further communicate at online meetup. At the meetup, members of two teams gave each other in-depth presentations on projects and existing results, and conceived the next steps in the direction of collaboration.

In terms of experiment, CSU_CHINA's Tet-on system will exchange out lab and give each other’s experiment advice in the long run.

In terms of HP, we have developed a multi-dimensional joint science education plan. And both teams exerted their own advantages. CSU_CHINA would provide an online platform to popularize, while NUDT_CHINA would provide questionnaire data processing.

In terms of art, we decided to collaborate on board and poster design, which can make our work more effective.

In terms of modeling, the two teams exchanged models and discussed the issues in detail and will share papers on our same part.

2.2 Science Popularization Day

September 11-17 is National Science Day Activities’ period. However, due to the large scale of the event, a single team is difficult to achieve excellent display in the event, so we collaborated with CSU_CHINA and had made a science popularization activity.(Click here for details)

NUDT-CHINA contacted the Science and Technology Association to obtain the right to participate and lead united board design. CSU_CHINA provided blue light test instruments to better demonstrate to our project’s common project and undertake the basic experimental operation part in our activity.

Our cooperation was so smooth and successful that we agreed to conduct an joint lecture at ChangJun Middle School on October 8th under a clearer and more successful division of labor. (Click here for details)

2.3 Offline meetup

Due to the partnership timeline, on October 5, 2020, we were invited to visit the laboratory of CSU_CHINA and hold an offline meeting. After being informed about lab safety , our members experienced the specific laboratory operation under their PI’s guidance, which not only helped to improve our experiment skills in details , but also made the two teams further understand each other's projects, which is beneficial to our communication. At this meetup, we formed a completed framework of partnership.

At the meetup, both teams showed each’s project and current results. We had in-depth discussions and made an important contribution to the advancement of the project and the next step of collaboration.

In terms of experiment, NUDT_CHINA inspired CSU_CHINA to consider the secondary effect of blue light, and CSU_CHINA mentioned that we should put the blue light intensity into our consideration.

In terms of HP, both teams exerted their own advantages. CSU_CHINA would provide NUDT_CHINA with an online platform to popularize, while NUDT_CHINA will provide CSU_CHINA with integrated questionnaire data processing.

In terms of modeling, NUDT_CHINA would help CSU_CHINA adjust the parameters of the model, while CSU_CHINA would help with animation of the model.

Assessment

CSU_CHINA inspired NUDT_CHINA used blue light intensity as a variable to test the working effect, and we conducted a relevant experiment because of the inspiration, and the achievement can be seen in the figure.

After we raised the question of whether the engineering cell system worked only once for CSU_CHINA, they conducted a second glucose blue light induction experiment in response to this question, and as can be seen in the figure, the concentration of glucose decreased after blue light treatment, and the intensity was not significantly reduced compared to the first time, which can prove that our inspiration is practical.
