September 11th to September 17th is National Science Popularization Day activities, with a wide variety of science communication activities in many forms throughout the country. To gain public opinion on our projects, we collaborated with CSU-CHINA to participate in “spark science”activity hosted by the Association of Science and Technology in our district,which gave us a lots of comments and advice on our projects.By the way, we had an interesting communication on the cell in our projects, which gave us a wonderful idea of writing our projects into small stories and connecting these stories together, which brought the beauty of systhesis biology to all of our teams.
Our activity took place on September 17th in Fuxing Square in Changsha.As exhibitors, we exhibited blue light control equipment, some laboratory equipment including pipettes, breakers and some gloves. Through this way, we involved the public to our experiment , which showed our experiment’s safety. In front and back of our booth, we exhibited a board about synthetic biology and two posters with brief introduction on projects of teams in ICII association , which is beneficial to our communication.

Standing in front of the booth, our members patiently introduced our team's projects and explained relevant synthetic biology knowledge to the people. Besides, we also distributed questionnaires to acquire the public’s opinions to synthetic biology and our projects , from which we had know that piblic are mainly concerned on whether the blue light could give the disease a quick treat, which made us committed to find better light intensity and light frequency to increase our effective in the future.
During the event, our booth attracted officials from Science & Technology Association and Science & Technology Bureau, and our team members introduced iGEM competition and our project to them, and they gave us full recognition of our project and encouraged us to progress our projects, which they thought is beneficial to our community."The college students are the most creative group in our society, we are so proud of you and your project, and we believe our society will be better because of your projects ."one of the officials said.
Through this activity, we had expanded the impact and acceptance of our project and gathered lots of public comments on our projects. They thought our projects may reduce the costs in the future, and wished that we can maintain the advantages of non-invasiveness and reversibility, and paying attention to treatment cycles when applying in the future.Their advice provided practical advice for our future work.
About 1000 people had joined the activity.The relevant news had been reported on Red Net ,the most influential local net in Hunan province while the report on the WeChat official account has nearly 20,000 views.
During our communication with NMU-CHINA and other teams, we found that there were some connections between our projects. Our projects are all about cells, and actually use cells to generate the materials we need. And we came up with the idea of writing our projects into small stories and then connecting these stories together. Through the progress, we introduced our project to other teams and learned other’s projects in an interesting way, which brought the beauty of synthesis biology to us.
