Team:USP-EEL-Brazil/BeyondSyntheticBiology

Our team, besides developing research related to synthetic biology, also works hard on scientific dissemination through social networks. The year 2021 was very turbulent due to the pandemic and the restrictions imposed by it, and thus the lack of human contact hindered communication between people, which resulted in increased use of the internet and especially social networks.

Thus, our Marketing team dedicated itself to the elaboration of informative arts and videos, which were published in our social networks. Platforms like Instagram and Tiktok bring with them a way to get visibility, besides having a great reach among different types of audiences. Because of this, our team decided to use them as tools for science dissemination.

In this way, we were able to successfully disseminate scientific knowledge to society, putting more science into the lives of several people. Through our publications, it was possible to alert and inform the community about the current situation of ophidian accidents in Brazil, an issue that is usually neglected. In fact, the citizens who are most affected by snake incidents, in general, are those who have less access to information and most of them live in rural areas of the country.

Therefore, through the use of digital platforms, it was possible to make posts related to synthetic biology and ophidian incidents. Thus, our team took knowledge to people who needed it so much, contributing to the health and welfare of different spheres of society in Brazil.

Those who love vaccines! To encourage vaccination against COVID-19 in our country we made posts raising awareness about vaccination.

On Women's Day we try to show the origin of this day and the importance of feminism in our society. We highlight the women in our team, and talk about the impact women have caused in science.

On the world snake day, July 16th, we made some posts talking a little about the biodiversity of snakes in Brazil and some curiosities about them. In another sequence of posts we tell the legend of Honorato and how ophidic accidents affect our country, Brazil.

In this sequence of posts we aim to demonstrate to the Brazilian society how to perform first aid in case of ophidian accidents. Also, based on the survey we did, we identified the most common mistakes in these accidents and emphasized why they are the risk. We believe that it is very important to help avoid these accidents. We also explain a little bit about the Synthetic Biology Tournament.
