Collaborations

This page describes our collaborations with other iGEM teams from all over the globe. We have organised meetups with other teams, mentored a team, participated in events and surveys organized by other team(s). This page embodies the meaningful collaborations that we had with other iGEMers and conveys the spirit of togetherness and fraternity in the iGEM community.

Meetup with iGEM Paris-Bettencourt

Our first mention goes to Team iGEM Paris Bettencourt, with whom we had a virtual meetup with on 4th April 2021. This meetup was a great opportunity to discuss our project ideas, sponsorship plans and HP plans. Knowing the amazing members of their team and the diverse backgrounds they come from was a fantastic experience for us. This meetup was as fun as it was interesting! Here is a snapshot of the meetup, with members of both teams engrossed in discussions.

Mentoring Team iGEM IISER-TVM

We were involved in mentoring the maiden iGEM team from IISER Thiruvananthapuram. Our team connected with theirs through some common friends. Being a new team, IISER TVM needed help with various aspects of the iGEM cycle. We were delighted to mentor this newly minted iGEM team from India. We held meetups with their team and helped them with inputs on managing finances and sponsors, considerations to choose a project idea and various relevant administrative issues. This was a unique enriching opportunity for both our teams! We send our best wishes to Team iGEM IISER TVM for iGEM 2021 and all their future endeavours and look forward to meeting them in person at the Goa jamboree meetup!

Participation in All India iGEM Meet (AIIM)

Following the previous years' tradition, iGEM IISc-Bangalore and the other Indian iGEM teams participated in the 2021 edition of All India iGEM Meet, which was sponsored by Promega Corporation. This event took place from 23rd to 25th July. For the duration of the event, several activities occurred.

  1. Project presentation by the teams: every Indian team was given time to talk about their project, get feedback and comments from the participants.
  2. Workshops by eminent speakers in the field of SynBio like Dr. Archana Chugh, Dr. Madhusudan M.S., Ms. Tanvi Kale and Prof. Radhakrishnan Madhavan
  3. Exciting virtual games, SynBio quizzes and "Coffee with Ambassador" sessions

At this meetup, we could exchange our views with the other Indian iGEM teams. The AIIM presentation session was like a mini-jamboree, where all Indian iGEM teams, including ourselves, presented our project. We were enriched by the opinions of the judges and their valuable insights regarding the future directions of our project. The session made us aware of the pitfalls of our project and helped us to improve and be better prepared for the final Giant Jamboree.

Meetup with iGEM NIT Warangal

The National Institute of Technology at Warangal has launched a new iGEM team this year. We had a meetup with iGEM NIT Warangal on 17th October 2021. Being a new team, iGEM NIT-Warangal sought our suggestions regarding last-minute changes they could make to their wiki, and how they could document their work more exhaustively such that it's easier for the judges to navigate through the wiki and find out all relevant information regarding fulfilment of various medal criteria. We had intriguing discussions about our projects, HP efforts and wiki development and exchanged views about each other's wiki content. Not only was it delightful to help a new Indian team, but also an opportunity for us to re-examine the medal criteria and documentation for our own project.

Surveys

We participated in a number of surveys held by various teams from all over the globe. We have contributed to the Dental Hygiene survey by Team Estonia_TUIT, the "Disabled in STEM" survey by Team IISER Kolkata, the Registration cost survey by Team UNESP Brazil and the survey on DNA assembly techniques launched by Team Paris-Bettencourt. The topics in these surveys ranged over a broad spectrum of topics from accessibility and diversity in STEM to comparisons of the iGEM registration fee with the minimum wage in the country and the specific techniques used by us in lab.
