Achievements
We are proud to announce that we secured the GOLD Medal in iGEM 2021
We were also nominated for the “Best Diagnostic Project” in Track Awards.
Track Awards are given to the teams that show promising projects that provide faster, cheaper and better diagnostics techniques to improve access to medical treatment worldwide. Our team was among Top 5 among 36 diagnostic teams this year.
Bronze Criteria
- Competition Deliverables: Our competition deliverables consist of
•Wiki,
•Presentation Video
•Promotion Video,
•Judging form. - Attributions: Contribution is attribution! We've developed a list of people who contributed to our project and we'd like to thank them for their assistance on our Attributions Page
- Project Description: Project Description describes the inspiration and the goals of our project.
- Contribution: We added new documentation to an existing part via literature survey. We contributed a new part to the parts registry. We generated phylogenetic data on MDR-TB for other iGEM and non-iGEM members. We troubleshoot the problems we encountered while generating the phylogenetic data. For more information, please refer to our Contribution Page
Silver Criteria
- Engineering success: We were able to demonstrate Engineering success in various challenges that arose during our project.
- Collaborations: Our team collaborated with many other teams throughout the period of iGEM 2021. Few teams also presented in the conference organized by our team. For more information, please refer to our Collaboration page.
- Human practices: We have communicated with major stakeholders associated with our project. This provided us with important information that helped our project evolve into a better version. We tried to keep in touch with the real-world while working within our labs. For more information, please refer to our Human Practices page.
- Proposed Implementation: We have ideated how we are going to implement our kit in the real world. For more information, please refer to our Implementation page.
Gold Criteria
- Integrated Human Practices: The team communicated with many people including stakeholders and discussed the project and its impact on them. We used their advice which helped us improve the project details. For more information, please refer to our Integrated Human Practices page.
- Project modelling: We built an epidemiological model to predict the rise of MDR-TB cases and to analyse the impact of late and early detection. We have also worked on enzyme kinetics of our project along with phylogenetic analysis. For more information, please refer to our Modelling page.
- Proof of concept: The Proof of Concept page shows how our design carries out the project, fits the goals of cost-effectiveness, and achieves the point-of-care testing objective.
- Science communication: Throughout this project, we reached out to the general public and made efforts to generate awareness and educate them about synthetic biology. We organized IGCC which helped us reach larger audiences from all over the world. For more information, please refer to our Science Communication page.
- Excellence in another area: To implement a novel diagnostic kit, it requires a lot of planning and analysis. We worked on the various aspects of our business plan that will help us in making our kit more impactful. For more information, please refer to our Entrepreneurship page.
