Collaborations

OVERVIEW

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a common malignant tumor of the digestive tract worldwide. It has a high incidence and fatality rate. Our project this year focuses on the early diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer. In the competition, we actively seek cooperation with the outside world, increase contact with universities and enterprises, and join in various aspects including team cooperation and multi-team union. In the process of collarboration, we hope to obtain suggestions from all parties, including high school students, other teams and companies, to improve our project in experimental design, experimental technology optimization, and modeling methods improvement and so on. At the same time, we hope to put forward constructive suggestions for other teams to achieve the effect of mutual benefit and create an atmosphere of mutual progress.
In the process,we contacted with LZU-CHINA, BIT-CHINA and YiYe_China in team operation, then took part in ,meetup in Bluepha, CCiC and joint science lecture.

Team cooperation

With LZU-CHINA

  •    Members of team BIT and team LZU-CHINA held an exchange meeting in Beijing Institute of Technology. During the exchange meeting, members of the two teams introduced and discussed the relevant content and technology of their respective teams, exchanged, discussed and improved each other.

First of all, two team leaders reported the 2021 project. During the communication, team LZU-CHINA put forward many constructive questions to us. And we also suggested improvements to them. During the communication, the two teams exchanged experience and lessons. For example, we should pay attention to the age of the audience when making a presentation, which helped us to improve the human practice.

    With BIT-China

  •    We held an exchange meeting with BIT-China team in Beijing University of Technology. At this exchange meeting, the members of the two teams reported on the progress of their completed projects and exchanged questions with each other. We have gained many constructive suggestions in the exchange. For example, we discussed the creativity and feasibility of the projects of both parties, how to preserve bacteria in the experiment, and how to improve the efficiency of RNA purification.

    With YiYe_China

  •    We conducted two exchanges with team Yiye-China using Tencent meeting.
The first exchange was the exchange of projects between our two teams. Both of our two teams carried out early screening for CRC. Through the exchange, we complemented the methods of the two teams and communicated to the feasibility of technology: giving suggestions to each other, helping us better complete the project.
At the same time, according to the analysis of the questionnaire, we started the planning of the first online popular science lecture on CRC, and carried out the online popular science lecture on CRC in cooperation with Bilibili on July 30.
In the process of cooperation, we considered synthetic biology and iGEM competition from the perspective of high school students, and reached cooperation with them.At the same time, due to the similarity of the topics selected by both parties, we reflected on the shortcomings of our own projects and improved them in the later stage.

    Multi-team union

    Meetup in Bluepha

Bluepha is a synthetic biology high-tech enterprise founded by iGEMers. It has been committed to promoting and popularizing synthetic biology education and it is also a leader in the field of synthetic biology in China. Our team BIT went to the lab to visit and study and communicated with other four teams.
Team BIT, team RDFZ, team GJU China and team NDNF-China all introduced their project and exchanged discussions with each other. We discussed how to apply machine learning and mathematical statistics in the biological modeling process.Through this visit, we also learned the technical routes and modeling methods of other teams, and at the same time deepened our understanding of synthetic biology.

    CCiC

The CCiC as a big stage for the exchange of iGEM teams in major universities in China, has played a very important role in the exchange of human practice. Our team also participated in the 8th China Regional iGEMer Conference (CCiC).
In the conference, each team carries out a comprehensive display of the project, the professional review teacher asks us questions and gives me suggestions for the project, and then opens the communication room to communicate with other teams. In terms of HP and wiki, it carries out experience discussion with excellent teams:

When we listen to the reports of other teams, we recorded their advantages and improve their learning. Especially in the direction of modeling, we have improved the technical route based on the original foundation. Someone asked us how to determine that the design is still feasible in a non-laboratory environment,so n the basis of this suggestion, we have added experiments to verify the anti-interference of the system. In this exchange, our team has gained a lot:We have conducted in-depth exchanges with various teams from China, including team building, personnel management, experimental barriers and so on, which have a profound impact on the later development of the project.

    Joint science lecture

We also used other online promotions. On the Bilibili platform, team BIT and team YiYe-China conducted a live broadcast of colorectal cancer science promotion and synthetic biology promotion. The live broadcast introduced the clinical symptoms, hazards, mainstream of colorectal cancer, detection methods and more optimized detection methods conceived by the two teams respectively. This live broadcast has nearly 5,000 popularity points (approximately 500 people) watched this live broadcast. The main users of the Bilibili platform are young people aged 14-30. At the same time, the younger age and early onset of colorectal cancer are not well known to the public. Therefore, our live broadcast is aimed at the "target audience". Through this live broadcast, we can let them know more about colorectal cancer. So we can introduce our project to them and broaden the audience base of the product.
In this live broadcast, there are also researchers who study CRC provided us with very valuable opinions during the live broadcast. His suggestions such as "the pros and cons of the current markers and the detection methods used" and "how to solve the problem of false positives" all make us think. Therefore, we also arranged special experiments to solve these problems in the follow-up project improvement problem. At the same time, he also recommended that we increase the carrier experiment, and after in-depth communication with him, we will also take this as one of our future improvement directions.

    SUMMARY

Through collarboration including team cooperation and multi-team union,we have increased contacts with enterprises and universities.During this process, we received a number of suggestions, including experimental route design, team management, experimental technology improvement, and promotion of publicity. At the same time,we contact the power of multiple parties, share knowledge, exchange experience, and help other teams while assisting the development of our own projects to carry forward the spirit of cooperation and win-win.
