Overview
The bioelectronic capsule’s and the engineered probiotic’s modules were tested both from a dry and a wet
lab perspective. Based on the module that is tested each time, we divided all the experiments into two
big categories: The detection system that comprises of the pFlic, the TANGO and the Tyrosine/Tyrosinase
module and the amelioration system that comprises of the SCFA production modules, the cellulose
degradation module, the cumate inducible kill-switch and the microencapsulation technique for the
probiotic.
Strategy
Our team built new genetic modules combining basic DNA parts in a standardized way. In order to increase
the multigene assembly efficiency, we followed the GoldenBraid assembly strategy that is used for Plant
Synthetic Biology and can also facilitate heterologous expression of proteins in bacteria. This enables
us to test our system’s modules separately based on the modularity of our design.
