iGEM2021_BIT-China conducted science popularization activities at Beijing Institute of Technology Teli School
In April 2021, BIT-China team instructors and members came to Beijing Institute of Technology Teli School to give a lecture on “‘Monster or Elf’ Green Creature Manufacturing” to the students of Teli College.
We showed the students some of the current research directions and past outstanding projects of the iGEM team, which increased the students' understanding of iGEM and made them more eager to participate and contribute to it.
Meanwhile, our PI, Professor Jun Li, explained the basic contents of synthetic biology, such as the development history, engineering ideas, and the detailed applications of synthetic biology in medicine such as vaccines and pharmaceuticals. And we briefly introduced the applications of synthetic biology in energy, environment, food and future development prospects, which increased the students' understanding of synthetic biology and stimulated their interest in synthetic biology.
We designed a hands-on experience session for the students, instructing them to use the pipette gun and perform the operation of coating plates, which not only increased the interest of the lecture, but also impressed the students about synthetic biology.
We were delighted to be able to conduct science popularization together with our PI. The academic explanation of the PI together with the understanding explanation of our team members benefited the students a lot, and we collected the students' feelings afterwards, which provided guidance suggestions for future science popularization activities.
