Team Leader

Yasser Ayman

With such a resourceful personality, AFCM student team leader was steering the team towards giving its fullest potential. Besides being a senior medical student, Yasser has an exquisite talent in writing scenes, directing and video editing. You can say he’s the guy behind all of our media approaches. He also hits the gym in his free time and loves horse-riding.

Saif Wahba

A senior medical student who is always content to learn more about the world we live in. He took advantage of the chance given to him by iGEM to indulge in the scientific fields of synthetic biology and genetic engineering besides his growing interest to study the economic side of project development by enrolling in the bio entrepreneurial aspect of the team. Wahba plays squash in his free time and enjoys learning new languages, counting up to three so far

Ahmed Tarek El-gamily

A gymshark, calesthenics man and computer geek who takes programming and web developing as side hobbies. Innovation starts once he possesses a laptop and an internet connection. Besides that, He's massively interested in cooking and is one year away from being a physician.

Mohamed El Doliel

"Do more, be more! Life is experience" A 5th year medical cadet who loves to learn something new every single day. Adventurous, a movie addict and a genetic engineering fanatic. Aiming for change, changing himself to the better before changing the world around him.

Eyad Haider

A fifth-year medical cadet and a dedicated, outgoing, upbeat, self-motivated team player with strong communication skills who has always wanted to follow in his father's footsteps as a genetic engineer and explore more about genetic engineering and synthetic biology, especially cancer therapeutics, after his grandmother died of breast cancer. When he isn't having philosophical conversations about anything, Haider likes cooking and spending time with his family by the coast.

Moetaz Radwan

A senior medical student at the armed forces college of medicine, He has always been obsessed by the human body and wanted to learn more about how it operates. Interested in finding a cure for cancer, enthusiastic about curing breast cancer in particular as a memorial to his grandmother who suffered from this horrendous disease .He also aims to make patients be willing to accept new modalities of cancer treatment such as our vaccine project. He is appreciative of the opportunity given to him and the experience he acquired from participating in IGEM and he plans on passing it forward. He aspires to be successful in the future. He enjoys playing Basketball on our college’s team.

Abdelrahman Khalifa

He is a medical student and a hockey player who is obsessed with science and biotechnology and has a dream to change the world into a better place. He worked this year in the directed evolution team and developed some modified parts. He is also passionate about traveling and experiencing new things. Besides his scientific tendencies , He is also a fun-seeker who likes to party and enjoy life.

Ahmed Wael Mansour:

A 5th year medical student who is a free spirit that has always loved exploring the whole world around him...ended up finding that his passion would be in research. Have been a part of IGEM society for 4 years and counting more.

Ahmed Gamal Mattar

Medical student and STEM graduate who adores scientific research; especially biomedical engineering and synthetic biology. Interested in integrating different fields together (Maths, physics, medicine, computer science, and bioinformatics) to achieve a futuristic beneficial project to humanity. Taekwondo player for 9 years and volunteer in charity organizations. He is a medical student but his scores in mathematics exams have always been higher than biology exams!

Mahmoud Sayed

You can call him the MAN of the team besides his handsomeness, of course he is a 4th year medical student who is always obsessed about science and traveling, He is also a windsurf player, so he took the chance to learn as much as possible about working on a scientific project together with many professional people and possibly leave a mark in the world of bioinformatics

Mahmoud Abd-Elmonem:

A 4th year medical cadet whose friends are used to calling him ‘Fire’ because he is excessively active and meticulous at what he does, or in other words, he is always on ‘Fire’. One day, he hopes to become an established cardiologist when he’s graduated from college. Also a professional swimmer, with breaststroke as his specialty. His passion lies in the field of synthetic biology and biotechnology as he thinks that it would be the key to solving many of the problems we face nowadays. He considers the iGEM team to be more than his family. As for this year’s team, his work was mainly in the field of directed evolution.

Mohamed Hasouna:

The dream any team out there is looking for. A 21-year-old medical student who is obsessed with gaining knowledge and learning new skills every day. Besides medicine and synthetic biology, I'm passionate about history, politics, and geography. I’m a football fan and an indie rock music addict. You can call me Ryan Reynolds of the team, obviously not referring to his handsomeness.

Omar Ahmed

Omar Abdalla was born and raised in Kuwait. Then, an opportunity came to him to join the AFCM in Egypt and be a part of this respectful family. His interests include research, music, sports and reading. Thus, he joined the IGEM team, specifically the scientific committee and was involved in the directed evolution. In addition, he is the senior among his colleagues. He plays piano, guitar, violin and oud to satisfy his love of music. Sports have always been a part of his life and never skips a day in the gym.

Ahmed Gehad.

A second year medical cadet who is keen on leaving a positive impact in the lives of those who surround him. Since a very young age, he worked so hard on helping others improve the quality of their lives through civil and charity work. He always had a dream of making the world a better place so he took the advantage that IGEM offered him to step against one of the biggest and most severe health problems his society is facing, and that is Breast Cancer. In his free time, Gehad loves playing handball and listening to Blues. He is also fond of languages since he speaks four different languages fluently

Omar Fouad

Omar is 19 years old medical student, He loves to be a research student in Synthetic biology so he now is a member of AFCM EGYPT IGEM team in the scientific part, you can call him Mr New One because he is the youngest member in the team , He is participating in IGEM for first time so he is afraid of it but he is a pharaoh on his body so instead you can now call him Tutankhamun ( Tutankhamun was the youngest of the ancient kings of Egypt, and this is for those who didn’t like to study history like me).

Ahmed Eid

He is senior medical student in Armed Forces College of Medicine, his passion in dealing with people and planning events exceeds all the limits. Chess grandmaster who add his touch of pleasure and fascination in Team’s delightful moments letting them out in videos. He cares for people health and participates in IGEM competition to unleash the cure for breast cancer in which we put great hope in ending that disease.

Instructors

Howida Samir

The only “she” on our team, Howida is a gifted biotechnologist with profound experience that unravels once she enters a lab. This year Howida is one of our instructors from whom we continuously seek technical advice let alone the untechnical ones. Her number one hobby is to swim and she’s unexpectedly got painting artifice.

Mohamed Rashwan

Rashwan is an enthusiastic medical graduate with a passion for making treatment available for everyone in Egypt. Although not always very patient, Rashwan is a very meticulous doctor who cares for every bit of the work. He also carries the responsibility of being “the voice of wisdom” for the team. As a military graduate, he is very skillful in handling firearms and a professional marksman. After he finishes his one year internship, Rashwan plans to pursue a career in pediatric surgery, integrating research in his studies. As for iGEM, Rashwan has had the opportunity of participating several times as a member and advisor and this year as an instructor and a judge.

Mohamed Tarek Mansour

With great passion comes great responsibility. In the field of science, Tarek proved to be an eminent figure especially when it comes to bioinformatics and genetic engineering. He is AFCM’s genius and idea generator. Tarek has participated in iGEM for more than 6 years and played almost all roles including team member, team leader, advisor, instructor ,and finally an iGEM judge for 2 consecutive years. Team AFCM is lucky to have such a wonderful asset. P.S the guy has got skills playing handball.

Mohamed Ezzat Elfakhrany

Being part of the staff members of obstetrics and gynecology, Dr/ Ezzat was very helpful in providing the etiology for breast cancer and TNBC, which was crucial for coming up with reasonable, but innovative approaches towards solving the problem.

Advisors

Mohamed Osama

Mohamed Osama is a senior studying medicine. He loves going to the gym most of the time. If you didn't find him there, you will find him behind the screen working on graphic designs. He is the one that takes over all the team graphic design and UX & UI Design for our wiki this year.

Ahmed Elshewikhy

A person who was born to make a difference and a spiritual meaning of his life. He believes that each person has his own type of specialty, so he always helps people to find out the best version of them, get their own specialty, and the real cause of existence. This person is called Elshewikhy.

Elshewikhy is a passionate medical graduate who is fond of scientific research, especially Bioinformatics and synthetic biology. After being a member of the AFCM-IGEM team last year and taking part in this long journey in designing this vaccine and its programming, he came again this year as an advisor to complete this project and make it applicable for each woman not only in Egypt but also all over the world. In his free time, Elshewikhy adores going to charity, painting, and playing basketball.

Ahmed Adel Rezk

A 5th year medical cadet, interested in synthetic biology and genetic engineering. He has participated in iGEM for 4 years. He is currently an AFCM-iGEM Team Advisor, a member at the iGEM HP-committee and a research mentee in the Next-Gen Global Health Security (NGHS) mentorship program. Regarding his interests other than research he loves playing tennis and really enjoys snuggling up on his sofa every night watching some of the matches of the tennis legend N. Djokovic, while doing his research work. He believes that with synthetic biology and the science being offered in iGEM family a solution for any challenging issue in the medical field or any other sector is absolutely figureoutable.
