Team CCU_Taiwan

Team CCU_Taiwan had a nice short story about antimicrobial peptides which are capable of destroying antibiotic resistant bacteria. We had the pleasure to translate it into Arabic language when the CCU-Taiwan team reached out to us.

Team Stony Brook

On the iGEM collaboration page team Stony Brook called for iGEMers to share their talents in a way that relates to synthetic biology. One of our teams’ instructors painted a 20×20 cm abstract acrylic painting on canvas. Colour pink is mainly used to represent our project's theme for this year, that is Breast Cancer. Symbols are included, for instance; the DNA, the dendritic cell, and the virus; are in a reference to our idea of developing a viral vector vaccine to breast cancer. Some other organelles are demonstrated such as the mitochondria and red blood cells. Finally, The mini microscope, the bacterial culture in the pertri dish, and the smear microscopic slide are symbols for lab work.

Team MIPT_MSU

In order to reach and gather data from the Middle East region, Team MIPT_MSU got in touch with our team and kindly requested us to translate their survey, that tackled a common topic between both our teams, which is cancer, into Arabic, our mother language. After translating the survey, we gladly distributed it among university students of different faculties and professions in Cairo, then we analysed the data and shared the results with them.

Team igemNOUS

Team iGEMNOUS had this brilliant idea of creating a collage or a mosaic that depicts the IGEM teams’ whole experience this year through the little moments every team shared among their members . We shared three special pictures.

expARTiments by iGEM NOUS

The first picture we shared is a screenshot of the Instagram story of Sarafina Nance who is an Egyptian American astrophysicist; she advocates for womens' rights on a very large scale using social media. Earlier this year, we got through to her and introduced her to our novel breast cancer vaccine. It was a very successful meeting to the point that she used her platforms to shout out for our team.

The second photo shows our team members after a hectic day that we spent with high school students during the workshops of the synfair. It is a "behind the scenes" photo of the AFCM-Egypt orchestra and we believe it stands as a perfect reminder for the vibrancy, energy, and team spirit inside our working room which we usually give it the name "factory".

The last photo is an abstract painting by our instructor Howida Samir, where ,during a peaceful hour, she included very fine details related to Synbio. We framed the drawing and kept it in our workplace.

Team Vilnius-Lithuania

In July 2021 team Vilnius-Lithuania reached out to us for collaboration. We had a zoom meeting to search how we could share our expertise. A great opportunity was given to them to discover more about entamoeba histolytica as the head of our Parasitology department joined the meeting to answer questions that they had regarding current methods used in Egypt for detection and treatment of the parasite. As a result of our collaboration, we translated an awareness poster for them regarding entamoeba histolytica and our team members got the chance to display the poster during our schools Synfair along with a brief explanation of its contents. And in return, the Lithuanian team troubleshooted our surveys after we had asked them to.
