As one of the founders of the 2021 XJTU-China team, I am active in almost all aspects of our team's work, especially in the lab. From team building to Jamboree, iGEM and our team became the most important thing for me this year. This team brought me the experience of my first scientific research, the will to overcome challenges, the lovely teammates, and the loss of my weight. Actually, I wish I can be a Lab Musician, for I believe a Sonata by Beethoven can lead to a success experiment.
Zhang Weiping
Night owl, born explorer and lab dweller
Zhang Weiping, undergrad in Xi’an Jiaotong University, supporter of Manchester United, Hakka people, and determined to be a promising scientist in biology. Also, as a co-leader, I constructed our wiki, our gene circuits and our team. Actually, I found the joy of gene editing during iGEM 2020 as a fledging learner, hence trying to explore synthetic biology after the one-year incubation. Hope to see you guys in Great Jamboree btw and please stay tuned on XJTU-China’s performance!

Hello guys! This is Chuxiao Zhou from Xi’an Jiaotong University majoring in clinical medicine. The subject of biology has fascinated me with its richness since I was in high school. The moment I saw the poster of iGEM, I decided that I had to move forward with my vision. During the brainstorming of our project, my team and I conceptualized the core theme of the project and conducted sufficient literature research and project design. In the subsequent teamwork, my research and experimental skills were greatly improved.

Guten tag~ This is Yang Jintian from Xi’an Jiaotong University, majoring in Biomedical Engineering. I mainly participated in the HP and wet lab. Thanks to my friends’ kindness, I was able to proceed some basic parts of the wet experiments such as plasmid transformation under their instruction. (What a legend!) Although gone are the days when we had our late-night snack together during the gap time in the lab, those beautiful memories are sure to be deep in my mind.

Hi everyone, I’m Liu Yiduo, a freshman majoring in Clinical Medicine. This year I participated in Human Practice and the compiling of wiki. The incomparable experience with iGEM made me jump out of the view point of a medical student and reconsider the relationship between human and microbes. I’m willing to utilize biotechniques to contribute to forestalling, diagnosing and treating diseases.

Hello, everyone! I’m Kuang Zeyu, a member of the wet lab group. I worked in the wet lab in most of my spare time. And I learned experimental knowledge and practiced my skills during my working time. Most of the time it is a pleasure to do experiment, but there was also annoying time, especially when I could not get the expected result and I would try my best to overcome the difficulty. Working in our IGEM team was an unforgettable memory, which left its own mark on my university life.

Hi, guys. I am Zhuomiao Zhang, a junior of clinical medicine in XJTU. I have developed a strong interest in synthetic biology due to the biology class in my freshman year. Dr Dan Tan, graduating graduated from Tsinghua University in 2014, is major in Microbiology and Synthetic Biology. Her research interest focuses on biosynthesis of pharmaceuticals, biomaterials, chemicals by synthetic biology approaches, and authored several publications and patents. She has been devoting herself to enhance the productivity of these valuable products, contributing to their commercialization for the society.
Prof. Lu Xiaoyun
(Secondary PI)
Dr Xiaoyun Lu, graduated from Tsinghua University in 2005, is a full professor of biology and the Vice Director of Biological Science and Bioengineering Department, School of Life Science & Technology in Xi’an Jiaotong University. She mainly focuses on the medical and industrial applications of biomaterials. She has been in charge of more than 10 national research projects and has authored more than 50 publications.
Prof. Zhang Yali
Yali Zhang is a professor of School of Life Science and Technology, Xian Jiaotong University. Her research interests are to understand the influences and molecular mechanisms of natural products on various diseases including diabetes. She has been in charge of 2 national projects and more than 10 other research projects and has published more than 50 scientific paper.
Shuhong Sun
Shuhong Sun, engineer, graduated from Shaanxi Normal University in 2012, majoring in microbiology. He mainly provides day-to-day support for the team, and is responsible for the technical and safety training of team members.
Shuyan Qi
MSc. Shuyan Qi, graduated from Xi’an Jiaotong University in 2010, is an engineer of Biological Science and Bioengineering Department, School of Life Science & Technology in Xi’an Jiaotong University. She mainly focuses on all kinds of biological experiments. She has participated in many national research projects and many papers.

Hello, I am Mengmeng Xu, a PhD candidate in Tsinghua university. I got my bachelor degree of bioengineering in Xi’anjiaotong University last year. I have participated in iGEM competition for three years and these experiences ignited my deep enthusiasm for synthetic biology. This year, I am also very glad to provide some guidance to this dynamic team. Although our team is facing great challenge of laboratory decoration, we still accomplish our work with great efforts and well organization. It’s undoubtedly that everyone in this team have gain a lot in this experience. As the famous saying goes, “To live, to err, to fall, to triumph, to recreate life out of life.” We can live in better a world that we design!
