Education & Communication
According to the questionnaire survey, we found that the public knows little about
the definition of microplastics, the way microplastics enters the human body, and its hazards. But after
popularizing the potential hazards of microplastics to the public, most of the respondents showed their
concern about the residual microplastics in their bodies. The harm of microplastics is a severe topic, but
it has not yet entered people's sight, so it is especially important to popularize the issue of
microplastics. In order to disseminate knowledge about microplastics, we educate the general public and
promote our philosophy through the following different means:
1、 We published science pamphlets and posters to introduce PET-related information, its human entry routes,
potential hazards, project ideas, and experimental principles.

2、 We developed an official
account “PETopacity” on WeChat. We serialized the
knowledge about microplastics, the principles of our product research and development, the progress of
product development, and the record of experts' opinions on the degradation of microplastics by genetically
engineered bacteria. Up to now, the total reading quantity of the public number has reached 3011, and the
following quantity has reached 139.

3、 We produced an interactive
video and published it on the Bilibili video network (One of the most influential online video platforms in
China, especially popular among teenagers). We popularized the information about microplastics, the way
microplastics enters the body and its hazards through the form of a knowledge quiz. The number of
interactive videos broadcast has reached 411.

4、 We conducted offline
lectures for white-collar workers to popularize the definition of microplastics, the way it enters the human
body, its potential harm to human beings. We also shared our project proposal. We first briefly introduced
our topic, then introduced the genetically engineered bacteria technology we used, and explained in depth
the experimental principles and the planned project prospects. Finally, we answered the audience's concerns
about safety issues and other questions.

5、 We conducted off-line popularization of science to primary school students to explain
microplastics-related knowledge and its hazards. We also explained the working principles of genetically
engineered bacteria and our project concept in a simple and easy-to-understand way.
6、 We customized project
peripherals and drew cartoon E. coli images. We printed
our team logo, E. coli cartoon pictures and PET-related cartoon images on the peripherals. We sell the
peripherals on a market and promoted our project concept at the same time.
