Safety I
Laboratory safety has come naturally and became our team’s habit. Knowing the great importance of lab safety, which is keeping people from getting severely injured, Ulink-SIP did a great job.
Safety II
Lab rules
We strictly follow the lab rules and regulations posted in our school lab. The Bio-lab is built according to the ‘Laboratory Quality Standards and their implementation’ published by WHO (World Health Organization)

Eating, smoking, and drinking are not allowed in the lab. The experimental samples and materials are not allowed to bring out of the lab
Emergency showers and fire extinguishers are also equipped in the lab to reduce unnecessary economic loss and safeguard personal safety. Besides, our lab has a well-equipped ventilation system and multiple windows and doors.
The agents and samples used in our experiment are at a low level of toxicity. No extremely toxic materials or heavy metals are used in this experiment.
Our bacterial sample is highly secured in the lab since it is the usual biological chassis model. The safety level of bacteria we used is 1 for E.coli
All the chemical waste is disposed properly by using the waste containers and we update the waster register every day.
Before being dumped, the bacteria solution was disinfected overnight. Consumables contaminated with bacteria solution and cell culture media were collected and discarded after being sterilized at high temperatures.
When students were present in the lab, at least one professional instructor was there to monitor and ensure our safety.
Safety III
All the experiments are done in the lab and we clearly know that it will not follow the regulations and rules published by China Food Safety Administration. There is a lot to do before 2’FL being approved for use in baby milk powder. Thus, we pay visits to several food processing plants in order to get an in-depth comprehension of food safety and the feasibility of adding 2’FL to the milk powder.
Safety IV
The membranes are only admitted to the lab by confirming the status of the Health Code and Travel History Card in advance. Also, the personal body temperature is recorded.
Due to the COVID-19 crisis, online meetup replaces face-to-face meeting by using Zoom or Tencent. We try our best to conduct the offline interview but some of the human practices, like questionnaires, are still under the help of the Internet.
Safety V
We use anonymous online questionnaires and avoid collecting personal information when designing the questions to guarantee privacy.
Other people, except our lab members and guide teachers, are not allowed to enter our lab or touch our experimental samples for safe certain.
