Elixio, a synthetic microbial consortium for sustainable violet fragrances
Perfumes influence perception in our daily life and the industry uses a wide variety of scents
However, some scents are impossible to extract from the so-called “mute flowers” like the violet
Worse, most scents are issued from non-sustainable and pollutant processes
Our Elixio project ambition is to demonstrate that valuable fragrances, such as the violet scent, could be easily recreated using synthetic biology
To this end, we have developed a synthetic consortium involving engineered yeast and cyanobacteria for the sustainable production of the violet scent molecules from atmospheric CO2
And yes, our yeast has a violet smell!
