Overview

Due to the impact of Covid-19, we took online and offline approaches to communicate with other teams and had in-depth collaborations with them. We shared ideas, discussed the problems in the process, and mutually put forward much practical advice.

Through constant and significant communication, we gained a lot of suggestions and improved our project. Here are some of the teams we work closely with.

With USTC-Software

Nucleic acid and protein are two hot spots in biological research. Our program is focused on nucleic acids, while USTC-Software's program is focused on proteins. Therefore, we carried out cooperation and committed to jointly build a prediction platform for the advanced structure of nucleic acid/protein.We used online meetings to set the direction, discuss technical details, improve the prediction model and enrich the platform's functions. This collaboration helped both sides advance the technology and make the platform's functions more practical.

With NJU-China

As the epidemic was still serious that made social practice more difficult, we collaborated with NJU-China from Nanjing University to address this issue. NJU-China conducted research on asthma disease in the southeast coastal region, while we did researches related to cancer awareness in Shanghai. According to literature research, we found that asthma has a strong correlation with lung cancer among cancers, making our collaboration meaningful. We shared survey questionnaires' results and had several online meetings to discuss. During the discussion, we found that there is a general lack of knowledge about asthma and lung cancer, so we hope to change that situation. The idea of further joint research on the relationship between lung cancer and asthma was proposed, and we chose the air quality situation as the direction to start the next step.

Through this collaboration, we made up for the lack of social practice due to the epidemic and broadened our thinking to find ways to further promote the project.

With Tongji_Software

Through China iGEMer communication group, Yanping Zhao, leader of Tongji_Software, and Hu Yuanjie Hu, leader of SJTU-Software got in touch on April 20. As both of us act as software teams and have similar biological and computer backgrounds, with different topics though, we made a lot of suggestions to each other in terms of project core and algorithms. In addition, we helped each other in many ways.

In fact, the cooperation between the two teams goes far beyond collaboration.

The 8th Conference of China IGEMer Community(CCiC)

As the effects of covid-19 still exist, the 8th Conference of China iGEMer Community invited synthetic biology enthusiasts from all over China to meet with hundreds of iGEMers and thousands of spectators through a combination of online and offline in order to comply with relevant regulations on epidemic prevention. The theme of this year's CCiC is "Overcoming Challenges", highlighting the faith of young synthetic biology enthusiasts to work together and make progress.

Several professors gave reports about synthetic biology at the meetup. Zhang Nan, a teacher from iGEM Foundation, reviewed the history of iGEM, led us to think about current problems and future plans, and affirmed the positive role of CCiC conference in promoting regional iGEMer exchanges. CCiC offered an outstanding platform for us to show our project, communicate with each other, practice our presentation and receive feedback from experts to optimize our work. We also made friends with many teams from China there.

2021 China iGEM Online Meetup

On May 29th-30th, we participated in 2021 China iGEM Online Meetup hosted by Jiangnan_China、Jilin_China、LZU-CHINA and SZU-China.

Through the online meeting, we briefly introduced our preliminary project. We were offered an opportunity to exchange our ideas, give suggestions to each other and look for the possibility of cooperating with 30 teams from all around China. We also took inspiration from other teams to further reflect on the contribution of our project and approaches of human practices.
