Overview
This portion of the project pertains to the design and execution of SUBLyme’s prototype. This prototype was comprised of three main elements; a lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA), sample extraction device, and travel kit. Our team designed a compact, portable kit that allows for the extraction of a sample from the tick and its application to our LFIA with one device. The device was designed with sustainability, safety, ease of use, and reusability in mind.
The design of the device it’s self was broken down into various components; a design of a 3D extraction and application device and casing through the use of the software SolidWorks, the material component of the LFIA, the chemical design of the LFIA, and the modelling of flow through the LFIA.
