    Responsibilitiy
  • Aidan Booker
    Aidan Booker organized and recruited the QGEM team for the 2021 year as well as managed the team’s finances, and sponsorships. He also led the outreach team this year, worked on the Hack-A-Thon project, and contributed to the filming and editing of the video segments for the team presentations. He also worked on designing the biosensor components and constructing the plasmids. Furthermore, Aidan worked in the wet lab with protein transformation, expression, and purification.
  • Kathryn Jalink
    Kathryn Jalink led the dry lab team for the 2021 year. She recruited and oversaw the wiki design team and managed the dry lab volunteers. She led the design of both the extraction device, lateral flow assay, and casing, resulting in a 3D prototype. She was able to generate mathematical models to describe the fluid flow through assay designs. She contributed to the scriptwriting and shooting of both the team’s promotional and presentation video in addition to being the main primary editor for the videos.
  • Griffin Watson-Boehnisch
    Griffin Watson-Boehnisch was responsible for the coordination of all aspects of the laboratory and its volunteers. Griffin was heavily involved in the design and modeling of the bioreceptor as well as the design of the plasmids. Griffin was responsible for adhering to all protocols for each experiment to ensure work was being conducted safely.

  • Amy Boyle
    Amy Boyle worked with the wet lab and dry lab teams to research and develop the immunoassay. She collaborated with team members to discuss materials needed and experimental techniques.
  • Victor Di Donato
    Victor Di Donato was a member of the wet lab team and was involved in creating the methodology/procedure to recombinantly express OspA from E.Coli and helped register parts used to the iGEM registry.
  • Cecilia Hernandez-Hosaka
    Cecilia is a member of the wet lab team. She processed many parts and created their corresponding pages. She has also contributed to creating protein models.
  • Adrienne Lee
    Adrienne was a member of the dry lab team and helped with the creation of the wiki. She designed the general template of the wiki and aided with some graphics and important features. She was in charge of proofreading the content and creatively displaying it.
  • Adam Levitan
    Adam was a member of the outreach team. He contacted professionals in the field of Lyme disease, conducted interviews with them, and recorded his findings. We also contributed to the Edge of Lyme event in which he was on the executive committee and has performed numerous duties in the areas of marketing and logistics. Adam has also helped with education and communication initiatives such as the public survey.
  • Bruce Masotti
    Bruce Masotti was a member of the outreach and human practices team. He led the creation of educational content and worked heavily in public engagement. He designed the majority of the curriculum, including activities and talks for the ScienceQuest program where the team worked with elementary and junior high school kids to teach them about synthetic biology and the science behind Lyme disease. He also took the lead on creating the course content for the new Synthetic Biology course here at Queen's. This course embodies much of what iGEM represents.
  • Julianna Petrenko
    Jules Petrenko worked on both dry and wet Lab teams where she researched parts and techniques for the development of the immunoassay.
  • Sania Sahi
    Sania Sahi was a member of the outreach and human practices team and currently stands as QGEM’s volunteer liaison. Sania serves as the team’s point of contact and is responsible for conveying weekly updates to each team member. When needed, Sania assisted the outreach team with other outreach initiatives such as helping create educational material and interview recruitment.
  • Reid Sauvé
    Reid is a member of the dry lab team and was in charge of proofreading the content.
  • Marissa Smail
    Marissa was a member of the dry lab team and contributed to the creation of the team's wiki. She designed multiple key features, designed graphics, and ensured that the team met all the criteria. She was also in charge of placing the wiki's content onto the iGem website.
  • Eric Wen
    Eric Wen was involved in researching chromogenic reagents that were utilized and registering parts that were used into the iGEM registry. He also generated molecular models using various modeling software programs.

  • Byron Hunter
    Byron Hunter is a Ph.D. candidate at Queens University and a former Queens_Canada iGEMer. Byron assisted our team in the lab by teaching the protocols and doing countless demonstrations to help our team learn the process of protein cloning, expression, and purification.
  • Sono Khan
    Sono was the previous Queens_Canada director and had been an essential part of setting up this year's team. He guided our team through the registration process, helped our team find funding and sponsorship, assisted with hiring, and more. He was also a valuable source of consultation when developing our assays, bioreceptors, and project concepts. He was a member of the dry lab team and was in charge of proofreading the content.
  • Kody Klupt
    Kody was the previous Queens_Canada wet lab coordinator and assisted our team throughout the project. He has been a consultant for vetting project ideas, developing assays, looking at the biochemistry behind ideas, assisting with laboratory techniques, composing the deliverables, and more.
  • Nolan Neville
    Nolan is a Ph.D. candidate at Queen's University and a former Queens_Canada iGEMer. Nolan helped our team throughout the summer in the lab with experiments and teaching our team protocols.
  • Geneviève Norris-Roozmon
    Genevieve was the previous Queens_Canada dry lab coordinator and assisted our team throughout the entirety of the 2021 iGEM season with all of our dry lab work. With her background in chemical engineering, she was able to provide a lot of insight into the design of lateral flow assays, lysis buffers, and more. She is also experienced in web design and was a useful asset in developing our 2021 wiki page.
  • Irsa Shoukrat
    Irsa is a Ph.D. candidate at Queen's University who was a vital part of guiding our team through wet lab procedures. Irsa helped teach our team almost all procedures related to cloning, protein expression, and purification.
  • Pooja Sridhar
    Pooja is a Ph.D. candidate at Queen's University was a vital part of guiding our team through wet lab procedures. Pooja helped teach our team almost all procedures related to cloning, protein expression, and purification.
  • Dr. Daria Trofimova
    Dr. Trofimova has helped support our team with the assistance of ordering and supplying reagents for our team's experiments as well as helping our team with protein purification protocols such as nickel affinity chromatography.

    Natalie was a graduate student and was a consultant for plasmid design, lateral flow assay design, buffer selection, and more.

  • Dr. John Allingham
    Dr. Allingham was the primary investigator for our team and oversaw the project from its inception to the freeze days. He has aided with team funding, lab practices, communication, troubleshooting, and more.
  • Dr. Robert Calautti
    Dr. Robert Colautti is a professor at Queen's University in the Biology Department and was a consultant on the project. Dr. Colautti has ongoing research in the field of Lyme disease where studies ticks. He has given our team many insights into experimental methods, project design, outreach, and communication. Dr. Colautti has also been the foundation for organizing the Edge of Lyme event that is helping promote Lyme disease awareness in the Kingston community. Dr. Ghasemlou is an Assistant Professor at Queens University in the Department of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences and was a consultant to the project throughout its duration. He aided the team in project and experimental design, troubleshooting, and more.

    Dr. Ghasemlou is an Assistant Professor at Queens University in the Department of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences and was a consultant to the project throughout its duration. He has aided the team in project and experimental design, troubleshooting, and more.
  • Dr. Andrew Winterborn
    Dr. Andrew Winterborn is the University Veterinarian at Queen's University and was a fundamental contributor to our team's 2021 project. He was responsible for the idea that spawned our project as well as has been a consultant for the veterinary focus of our project.
  • Dr. George Chaconas
    Dr. Chaconas is a Professor at the University of Calgary and is an expert in the field of Lyme disease research. Dr. Chaconas helped our team identify and sift through many potential methods of detection and target proteins for our immunoassay and in the end, helped confirm our choice of the target protein.
