Student Carnival of Tsinghua University High School

Tsinghua University High School held an annually student carnival on May 15th, which intended to construct a platform for students to display their interests. To expand the recognition of synthesis biology, iGEM competition in our community, QHFZ-China 2021 took part in this activity as well.

Offline educational activities

We, the BHSF team and the THIS team conducted two Education activities for the first-year students of Tsinghua High School on September 17 and September 23, 2021, and received very good responses. Not only did they popularize science on synthetic biology. The knowledge has also made many students show a strong interest in participating in iGEM.

On September 21, 2021, we participated in the Education event about dyes organized by the BJU team, and explained the content related to dyes and art. We introduced two aspects of the artistic use of ancient and modern dyes, and received good responses. . The scores of the dye and art questionnaire filled out by the audience after the lecture were much higher than the same questionnaire they filled out before the lecture.

On October 15th, we held an Education activity in THIS Primary School, aiming to let students learn some biological knowledge in advance, prepare for future biological exploration, and at the same time better transition to the middle school stage. Professional biological knowledge. We prepared experimental supplies such as paint, water, cut paper strips, and let the students experience the capillary action in small groups. The students in the elementary school expressed their surprise at the magical experimental phenomenon. After listening to our team members explain the experimental phenomenon After the principles behind, they showed great interest in biology, and they all expressed their eagerness to learn more about biology.


On October 20th, we gave an introduction to the junior high school students in the International Department of Tsinghua High School Affiliated Middle School, explaining the meaning of iGEM and the correlation of iGEM education, and introducing the progress of education activities carried out by our team. The students in the junior high school group were listening. After the explanation, I learned more about the meaning of participating in the iGEM competition. Many students also expressed that they would like to participate in the iGEM competition in the coming year.

We started planning this course with Beijing Jianhua Experimental School, BHSF, and ULink-sip in May 2021. We conducted several online video conferences to discuss course planning and other issues together. After discussion, we finally divided the course into 20 sessions.

We distributed the course materials to 17 different schools from Beijing, and gave them explanations through online videos or offline lectures. And to develop some schools and start to form the iGEM team in 2022. In September, our course officially ended. The students expressed that they had gained a lot of knowledge in synthetic biology and became more interested in biology. Many students also took the initiative to find the person in charge, hoping to participate in the iGEM competition next year.
