  • Vasiliki Katsarou
    Undergraduate student, Department of Pharmacy, University of Patras & one of the Team Leaders of the team.

    She organised and coordinated with the other team leaders all of the team’s work throughout the whole project. She was mainly occupied with the fundraising and she got in touch with the sponsors. Moreover, she contributed to the design of our wiki.


    Maria Kousteliou
    Undergraduate student, Department of Pharmacy, University of Patras & one of the Team Leaders of the team.

    She organised and coordinated with the other team leaders all of the team’s work throughout the whole project. She was the head of our Public Relations team, she contributed to the design of our Human Practices' strategy while she was responsible for the Integrated Human Practice.


    Dimitrios Spanos
    Undergraduate student, Department of Pharmacy, University of Patras & one of the Team Leaders of the team.

    He organised and coordinated with the other team leaders all of the team’s work throughout the whole project. He had the general supervision of the project's development process, the finance activities, the Human Practices' development, and the Wet Lab's experiments.


    Georgios Varitis
    Pharmacist BSc, Department of Pharmacy, University of Patras & one of the Team Leaders of the team.

    He organized and coordinated with the other team leaders all of the team's work throughout the whole project. So, he mainly supervised the development of our project.


    Evanthia Iliopoulou
    Pharmacist, MSc Student at Laboratory of Pharmacogenomics and Individualized Therapy, Department of Pharmacy, University of Patras & one of Wet Lab Researchers of the team.

    She took part in the project development process and performed all the experiments, such as parts design, site-directed mutagenesis procedures in eukaryotic cells and immunoblotting.

    Undergraduate student, Department of Pharmacy, University of Patras & one of Wet Lab Researchers & Graphic Designer of the team.

    He took part in the project development process and performed all the experiments, such as parts design, site-directed mutagenesis procedures in eukaryotic cells and immunoblotting. He also designed the graphics needed to promote our team and explain our scientific actions to the public.


    Georgios Bampounis
    Undergraduate student, Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Patras.

    He took part in some experiments regarding the site-directed mutagenesis procedures in eukaryotic cells.


    Alexandra Kyriakopoulou
    Pharmacist BSc, Department of Pharmacy, University of Patras & one of Dry Lab Researchers and member of Public Relations.

    She helped with the literature review and she used molecular simulation methods like docking in order to find the interaction between the rarely mutated enzymes CYP2D6 and CYP2C19 and the chemical compound mephenytoin and clopidogrel respectively. Moreover, she was a member of the Public Relations team and she engaged with Science Communication.


    Konstantinos Laimos Geranios
    Pharmacist, MSc student at Laboratory of Medicinal Chemistry, Department of Pharmacy, University of Patras & one of our Dry Lab team members.

    He contacted different companies and sponsors, he did research about the cost effectiveness for our project and he was responsible for making the podcasts.

    She guided us on our first steps in our literature review and information about our team's scientific field, pharmacogenomics. She also took part in science communication.


    Maria Koromina
    Post-doctoral Researcher in Bioinformatics and Statistical Genetics in the Laboratory of Pharmacogenomics and Individualised Therapy, School of Pharmacy, University of Patras.

    She was responsible for the Bioinformatic aspect of our project and trained us on the basics of NGS analysis. She took part in the project development process, and she provided guidance through our first steps.

    Researcher, CCAMF-UMFST, Tg. Mures, Romania , Academic Fellow, Mech. Eng. & Aeronautics Department, University of Patras, Greece.

    She took part in the project development process and trained us on fundamental techniques and protocols in cell cultures.

    He allowed us to use the Laboratory of Pharmacogenomics & Individualized Medicine in order to perform our experiments. He also provided scientific assistance and mentored us throughout the development of our project.

    She mentored through the whole project, especially in the wet lab and we discussed our Human Practices and science communication events. Moreover, she helped us with the partnership.

    Professor of Pharmacogenomics and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Director of Pharmacogenomics & Personalized Medicine Laboratory, Department of Pharmacy, University of Patras

    He advised us about Pharmacogenomics and what obstacles must be overcome to achieve the ideal personalized treatment.

    She emphasized two essential liver enzymes, CYP2D6 and CYP2C19, as they play a significant role in the metabolism of many prescribed drugs, and she suggested we search in databases, such as Pharm Var, Pharmacogenomics knowledge base, Pharmacogenomics biomarkers in order to find exactly what we need to start our laboratory procedures.

    He verified that even though many patients undergo pharmacogenomic testing and he suggested we work with psychiatric drugs, such as antidepressants and antipsychotics, which CYP2D6 metabolizes.

    He confirmed the importance of the CYP2D6 and CYP2C19 enzymes and suggested we do some research upon clopidogrel, an antiplatelet agent.

    General Practitioner - Expert in Personalised Medicine through Pharmacogenetics.

    He made it clear that a test that gives results more quickly and is more affordable would be much more helpful. He also listed several drugs that he thinks we should take under consideration, such as clopidogrel and opioid analgesics.
