  • iGEM 2021 NORTHWEST CHINA MEETUP

  • iGEM 2021 NORTHWEST CHINA MEETUP on May 5th
    Participating teams: XJTU-China, NWU-CHINA-A, NWU-CHINA-B,NPU-China and LZU-China.

The participating team showed their project, and also showed the propaganda video of each team. We found that there were some characteristic propaganda videos, and their animation was great . At the same time, we can get familiar with some of the teams in this competition and understand the current project progress of each team. NWU-CHINA-A also introduced us to their human practice. In contrast, we realized we still need a lot of improvement in this competition.

  • 2021 China iGEM Online Meetup on May 29th
    Participating teams:NWU-CHINA-B, iBowu-China, XJTU-China, CPU_CHINA, Jiangnan_China and so on.

In May, iGEM 2021 season has started. Each team has gone through a process of forming teams, setting topics, researching and confirming projects, and experiments will be carried out accordingly. At 9:30 am on May 29, 2021, the 2021 China iGEM Online Meetup hosted by Jiangnan University and other universities officially opened.

iGEM team NWU-CHINA-B from School of Chemical Engineering, Northwest University also actively participated in the online communication meeting. We shared our project content with other teams to seek cooperation and exchange.

We mainly focus on the following five aspects in sharing and communication:

    1. Overview of ginsenosides.

         2. Construction of a recombinant Pichia pastoris strain expressing β-glucosidase .

         3. Construction of recombinant strain with high expression of β-glucosidase .

         4. Optimization of transformation conditions of ginsenoside Rb1 by β -glucosidase .

    5. Problems to be solved.

    .

We showed our strengths and weaknesses to other teams and actively sought for communication and cooperation with other teams.
Through two days of team project exchange, we learned about the current project research ideas and project progress of each team.At the same time, we also got to know a lot of partners and had a lot of technical discussions and exchanges. In the exchange meeting, other teams also provided a lot of suggestions to our project, which made us realize many problems. We also learned a lot of new knowledge. For example,we understood the difference between the water gel and microspheres and we can improve the stability of the drug carrier and so on .

At the same time, many teams expressed their intentions to cooperate with us. In this meeting, we were very lucky to get to know iBowu-China team, and found the similarity of our two teams' projects and the direction of further cooperation.Earlier, when we performed electrophoresis in the experiment, we found that the experimental results did not conform to expectations. After communication with iBowu-China, we found that this was caused by the low plasmid concentration. In subsequent experiments, we successfully solved this problem by increasing the plasmid concentration.

  • Manufacturing Teams Meetup

  • Manufacturing Team Meetup on August 14th.
    Participating teams: BNU-China,Cornell, Jiangnan_China, NJTech-China, NNU-China, NWU-CHINA-B, NWU-CHINA-A.

In this meeting, we showed our ideas about the project after our initial brainstorming to other teams, and gained a lot about project risks and practical feasibility. At the same time, we learned about tryptophan for insomnia treatment from XJTU-China team's project. NWU-CHINA-A showed their tyrain purple dye. The projects of each team were very interesting, which made us immerse ourselves in the micro world of synthetic biology, and it was wonderful. The exchange in Northwest China left us a deep impression, and we also gained a strong friendship during the exchange of projects.

    Project display from various teams

  • Yeast Alliance Conference

  • On August 22, NWU-CHINA-B and many teams formed by Yeast Alliance Conference hosted Yeast Alliance meeting. In this meeting, our team had in-depth thinking and communication on the biochemical characteristics of yeast regularly, which helped us solve the problems related to yeast that our team met in the experiment. At the same time, we also hoped that after this, we can continue to promote the development of yeast alliance.

  • The 8th China Regional iGEMers Exchange

  • The 8th China Regional iGEMers Exchange from August 27th to August 29th.

From August 27th to August 29th, at the end of summer when many regrets were left due to the impact of the epidemic, a gathering of young lovers of biology was held in Shanghai. Hundreds of iGEMer and thousands of audience participated in the 8th iGEMer Exchange in China through online and offline ways.
The CCiC conference attracted 79 teams from more than 70 institutions for project presentations and poster presentations. For our team, we simulated a online reply, we showed our best to come out, and carefully recorded our deficiency, which helped us later improved.
At the same time, we learnt about the project each team and their advantages, for us, the meeting brought us great benefits.

  • ICII

  • There are 17 teams participating in ICII, which are distributed in various provinces of China and organized by NAU-China and CPU_CHINA. The holding of the conference has had a good impact on synthetic biology all over the country, many people who do not know synthetic biology have a different degree of understanding of synthetic biology. At the same time, it also provides more research ideas and a broader mass basis for our research on synthetic biology.

  • Production of comic strips

  • What we are most proud of is that we have drawn a comic book about ginsenosides, which describes the basic knowledge of ginsenosides, such as the anti-cancer effect of ginsenosides, the extraction method of ginsenosides and our enzyme conversion method. It explains the advantages of enzyme conversion method. The comic book is a popular science for children, The simple and clear painting style and interesting patterns of comic books are more convenient for children to take the initiative to understand. In addition, they can be used as the first key to the biology.

  • The Handbook of YEAST

  • Together with CPU_CHINA, HUST-China, UM_China, HiZJU-China, Jiangnan_China, UESTC-China and NWU-CHINA-B, we compiled the yeast handbook, which contributed to other teams' references to ginsenoside knowledge. The book records some new methods, experimental summaries and experiences of our yeast experiments, and records some common mistakes in yeast experiments. For more information, please see Contribution
