Implementation
Our team has designed a fermenter prototype that can produce spider silk. Inducer is flowing into the bottle through a tube near the top of the bottle. The bottle is filled with protein plus solvent solution (HFIP) which variables including pH and temperature are well monitored by the sensors installed on top of the bottle. There is a heater along with a magnetic stirrer near the bottom.
Then a pipe at the bottom is for transferring the protein to the tank and a 2-20ul pipette tip mounted on the front of the tube to limit and regulate the amount of protein extruded/out.The tank is fill with isopropanol solution which has low PH and helps the coagulation of protein. After immersing in the tank for a while, the formation of silk is done.The collection of silk is carried out through the spinning of the reel.
