By participating in iGEM, we got the chance to know more about horseshoe crabs and detection of bacterial endotoxin. We made up our minds to use synthetic biology to save the future of this wonderful creature, and for the benefit of humanity. Though we have done a lot of propaganda work such as the lecture and received positive feedback, the influence of our work is still limited at some point. Therefore, we tried to use a more vivid way for further promotion. With paper cuts and some very common consumables in the lab, we made a horseshoe crab model. Then we directed and shot a short video telling their story, in the hope that more people can understand the current situation of the crabs and help protect them.
Redemption of the blue blood
A long long time ago, there was a beautiful creature that lived in the shallow bay by the beach. For years and years and years, with their hard shell, they lived carelessly with no threats. One day, people accidentally discovered the secret hiding underneath: the mysterious blood with a bluish glow. The nightmare has never stopped ever since. This year, with all the members of GBU, we are going on a journey of redemption.

The purpose of this video is to let more people knows about this wonderful creature who make great sacrifices to our needs each year. We sterilized and reused microcentrifuge tubes and pipettor tips to build the model of horseshoe crab. Then we made this little video for educational purposes. We hope to promote our projects in a more vivid way to the public and call on people to care for biodiversity and adhere to sustainable development.
