Sharing plasmids with iGEM team in Beijing
The shuttle plasmids between E. coli and B. subtilis are required by many biological experiments, but it is not commonly used in normal laboratory nowadays . Another iGEM team in Beijing called SHSBNU_China contacted with GBU and told us that they needed to use pBE-DNA shuttle plasmid for their experiment as well.
Hence, GBU decided to share our shuttle plasmid and cultivate method with them. In August 2021, we sent the plasmids as well as the instructions on how to transfer and cultivate to Beijing and shared our experience together.

Experience exchange with SMS_Shenzhen
This year, the experimental design of GBU's project requires a process of protein electrophoresis to see whether we had successfully gained the proteins that had the correct size or not. However, GBU did not have any experience in protein electrophoresis experiments before, we had a deep discussion with the iGEM team SMS_Shenzhen to study the method of preparing Protein Gel-Cast.
As they had done a lot of protein electrophoresis before, we gained much knowledge and practical information from them. We observed the steps as they carried out protein electrophoresis and took notes about common problems that easily appear during the preparation of electrophoresis. Especially on how to avoid the leakage of SDS buffer from the container.
With the help of SMS_Shenzhen, we carried out our first protein electrophoresis and asked them how to judge the result. Finally, GBU successfully completed the following steps of protein electrophoresis.
Since both SMS_Shenzhen and GBU are doing protein level experiments, GBU also shared information on methods of protein purification and taught them how to operate the purification experiment to SMS_Shenzhen.
