We host meet-up with an 2021 high school iGEM Team, Feverve Factory, whose team members are from Shanghai High School, International Division. They have been studying the feasibility of enhancing the productivity of putrescine through cell factory engineering.
The core issues we discussed in our meet-up event included two parts:
1) Design of peripheral goods design and pricing strategy. Team Feverve Factory has started their project much earlier than we did, thus, they shared many useful tips with us, especially about their product list and how to decide prices for each product. They suggested that since peripheral goods would be used for fundraising activities, pricing and sales strategies should be considered from clients' psychological perspective. According to their suggestions, we determined our product list, e.g. we have chosen to sell umbrellas during the next rainfall, and we would also offer parasols after the deluge. Meanwhile, the pricing of all peripheral goods were determined.
2) Experiment on Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Since Team Feverve Factory has also used Saccharomyces cerevisiae in their experiments. We also consulted them about useful experience in handling Saccharomyces cerevisiae. They told us that we should have a quite clear experiment timeline when dealing with Saccharomyces cerevisiae because of it usually takes longer time than Escherichia coli. Thanks to their suggestions, we tried to re-organize our experiment timeline.

We had a collaboration with a team,called Dr.PHAGE (Shanghai_United_HS). Our team's project is developing a new type of automatic-producing enzyme that can accelerate producing ethanol, thus improving efficiency. Through mutual communication, we mainly discussed three issues.
The first issue is how to conceive the business plan. Secondly, we talked about how to publicize the team and peripheral products. We suggested to teach the biology subject to students in remote areas to popularize their understanding about biology. Their team also gave the advice like shooting some videos to popularize biology knowledge and promote the company. In addition, through a long period of communication, They came to a practical method that they could do to help each other, which is to find out more about each other's Wiki. In this way, we can look at each other's projects from the perspective of a third party and determine whether each other's projects can be clearly written and explained to others in the wiki.
Fujian_United & Shanghai_HS
We collaborated with Pansolver Base (Shanghai_HS team).
First, we shared the challenges that the wet team met while conducting the experiments in the laboratory. Our communication provided each other with understanding and mental support and generated effective methods to solve our challenges.
Moreover, our dry teams met similar obstacles. Both of our groups wanted to facilitate a charity sale to promote our projects to the public and for fundraising purposes.
We came out a idea that we could find the location for charity sale on some professional rental platforms so that we can educate the public about our projects while conducting the activity.
Nonetheless, we both enjoyed and learned from our collaboration with each other.
Fujian_United & Xiamen_City
We collaborated with another team called Pec Teast (Xiamen_City). We had high efficiency, so our discussion is mainly on managing a team and assigning tasks. We had a meeting at the beginning of every day to allocate their work. Also, We would write everyone’s attribution when we finished our daily work to motivate ourselves. We also informed us to write a business plan ahead. Otherwise, it has to be finished online.
