Abstract
The iGEMers of UESTC-China are responsible for all the iGEM work this year, which includes research, brainstorm, lab work, wiki, re-situ activities, interviews, surveys and so on. In addition, we have communicated and collaborated with many iGEM teams
this year, and we also have lauched a series of tailored connection with public, which we are proud of. All the detailed work done by our team members and the help received from others are shown below.
This summer, a local epidemic broke out in Chengdu. In addition, our laboratory has encountered serious contamination by bacteria. Progress has been hampered by the emergence of multidrug-resistant bacteria in the past month. Considering the progress
of the experiment and the serious biological safety problems that may be contributed to other laboratories, we have adopted the method of formaldehyde fumigation in the laboratory for thorough sterilization. After the laboratory returned
to normal, the team members had been promoting all aspects of work day and night and striving to do their best.
In addition, our team did not have seniors to guide the competition rules and team management methods at the beginning of the team's building. We worked hard in the mud and crossed the river by feeling the stones, wrote a series of easy-to-use iGEM introductory
guides about competition training and life tips for the future iGEMer.
PI
Yong Zhang
He is our primary PI. He gave us many insights and practical advices, especially on the design of the whole project and molecular cloning. In addition, he also helped us to comb the pathway and analyze the results. What’s more, he gave useful suggestions
on wiki and presentation.
Lixia Tang
She is one of our secondary PIs. At first, she gave us some guidance on background research, experiments of protein expression and detection of enzyme activity. Moreover, she came up with a series of valuable advices about the design of wiki and presentation.
Xuelian Zheng
She is one of our secondary PIs. She gave us a lot of detailed suggestions during the process of design and experiments. Also, she helped our team leader coordinate the team's work and supported our experiments by introducing teachers at Chengdu Institute
of Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences to us. For wiki, she also raised some ideas about the style. She also helped us a lot with our patent application work.
Juan Feng
She is one of our secondary PIs. Meanwhile, she gave us much theoretical guidance on modeling and taught us the way of using various software to find models. At the same time, she had communicated with each member friendly to appease our tension. Her
dedication, trust and great desire to help us at any time inspired us to strive as much as possible.
Instructor
Ling Quan
She is our instructor. As she used to be a judge in iGEM, she helped us better understand the basic principles of the competition. She gave a lot guidance on human practice promotion and patent application. Also she gave us huge help on building the bridge
between academia and the public.
Advisor
Qiugu Meng
As an iGEMer in 2019, he expressed his interest in our project at the first time he heard our idea. He supported us a lot when we first entered our lab, and taught us about biosafty hand by hand.
Xu Tang
He helped us to check whether the construction strategy was feasible and analyse why our PCR results were not well-done.
Xingyang Qiu
He knew how to use Pichia pastoris best among all our PIs and advisers, offered us a lot of regents and taught us methods and matters which need attention in lab.
