Education & Communication

Scientific research should not be limited to the success of experiments, but be connected with the society and the world, through our experiments, really solve the problems in real life, to meet the urgent needs of people. This is what human practices is all about, and that is our responsibility.

When designing projects, we must be aware of the community where we live. We needed to know what problems to solve, how to guide our project and whether we were capable of taking responsibility for the society and the world. Through consulting scholars, we could avoid mistakes and elaborate our project; through Interviewing stakeholders, we might find out what we need to pay attention to when designing a project; through collecting public opinions, we could be enlightened and let the public understand our topic and iGEM better.

People are apt to be afraid of the unknown in many cases. The aim of our publicity and education is to remove the public's fear of synthetic biology and let them better understand the role of synthetic biology in life, extending the significance of synthetic biology.

Integrated Human Practices





In the process of human practices, we guided and improved our projects through interviewing and experiments. At the beginning of the project, we interviewed experts in related fields to verify the feasibility of our idea. After the initiation of our project, we cooperated with various organizations to explore the possibility of further expanding the significance of the project; after obtaining experimental results, we interviewed the stakeholders in related fields to get their advice about the industry transition prospect of our project and the application direction in solving practical problems.

After receiving feedback from the above human practices, we brainstormed again and adjusted the project. Eventually, we developed and completed our project.

Education & Communication





In the whole iGEM-2021 season, we conducted a series of public publicity and communication oriented to different ages and professions to promote synthetic biology and understand the significance of our project, expanding the influence of iGEM and urging more teams join the competition.

We did science popularization in primary school; launched ICII(Into China,Into iGEM), a national summer publicity activity which was comprised of 18 teams in China; held iGEM Campus Competition to let more students experience the race process of iGEM. Through our activities, we hoped to inspire more people into biology and synthetic biology.
