When we were brainstorming ideas for our project in the beginning of the year, we immediately narrowed down to focusing on helping our environment. We all love nature, and we were excited to begin our environmentally based project. By targeting the invasive species Spotted Knapweed, we are contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals #15: Life of Land. This goal is centered around protecting natural ecosystems and preserving biodiversity on land. After we have successfully created and implemented our RNAi herbicide technology, we plan to expand our technology to make it applicable across many ecosystems and invasive plants. We are preserving the biodiversity in our Southern Alberta(Waterton), but we hope to facilitate others in their efforts to protect the environment as well. After consulting with experts close to Waterton Lakes National Park, and we are certain that our project can make a difference.
