Introduction

Our team is honored to participate in iGEM. Despite the additional challenges from the pandemic this year, everyone has given their all to make Vib-Check into what it is today. We are high schoolers from Hong Kong International School, but we’ve also had help from Kenny Ng, our incredible instructor. This is a dedication to each individual who has made our project possible.

Melissa Pain

Melissa Pain is a Canadian teacher who has taught in the Middle East, India and North Africa, where she raised two sons. She studied at Trent and Queen's University. In her work at Hong Kong International School, has a passion for encouraging student inquiry and research. Her main research interests are evolution, genetics and the microbiome. When not working or in the books, she can be found hiking or on the water.

Kenneth Ng

Kenneth Ng has been on HKU iGEM team since 2018. Veteran in cloning, and creative biological systems.

Team Leader

Derek Zhang

Derek is a Junior (11th Grade). He is the general leader of the team, who participates in all aspects of the project. He enjoys programming, wetlab work, and participates in Taekwondo competitions.

Wiki Leader

Aadi Anand

Aadi is currently a Junior (Grade 11). He’s the leader of the Tech Team, which manages the website and promotional & presentation videos. His interests are video games, coding, and movies. He participates in a few hackathons and olympiads annually.

Member Spotlight

Anika Kamat

Anika is in Grade 11. Her favorite part of being in the iGEM team has been working in the lab and running protocols. Some hobbies of hers include reading and listening to music on blast.

Jaiden Poon

Jaiden is in 11th grade. He loves participating in iGEM to explore his passion of biology as well as interacting and meeting with various people and teams all over the globe. He enjoys the outdoors, especially with friends.

Zachary Wang

Zachary is currently a Junior. He had a lot of fun working on some of the wiki pages as well as learning the general process of genetic editing in the modern world. He enjoys playing the piano and sports

Team Members

Michael Hu

Michael is currently a Sophomore. He’s a member of the Tech Team. His passions are video games, music, and computer science. He likes to play badminton and is a black belt in Taekwondo. His favourite part of being on the iGEM team is learning how to work with others on coding projects using programs like GitHub.

Siddharth Raykar

Siddharth is in Grade 11. His favorite part of participating in the iGEM competition has been designing experimental protocols and working in the lab. In his free time, he enjoys reading, playing video games, and running.

William Wang

William is a Sophomore. He worked on some parts of the human practices section and enjoy music, debate, and other forms of public speaking. He likes learning new things through debate and discussion.

Yoonjung Choi

Yoonjung is in Grade 11. As part of the IGEM Wiki team, she enjoyed collaborating with a variety of students to bounce off ideas. Her hobbies include programming, playing the trombone, and cooking.

Ethan Niu

Ethan is a junior. He worked on contact of the human practices section. He enjoys playing the guitar and cello as well as skateboarding.

Aiden Lee

Aiden is a junior. He works with the tech team in creating the team Wiki page and editing the presentational video. He enjoys programming and boxing.

Isabel Lin

Isabel is in Grade 10. Her favourite part of being in the iGEM team has been creating art for the website and learning about synthetic biology. In her downtime, she enjoys drawing and listening to music.

Cynthia Huang

Cynthia is currently a Sophomore. She worked on various parts of the human practices section for the biology team. She plays volleyball, badminton, and piano, and also likes to participate in public speaking and debates.

Daniel Chey

Daniel is a Junior. He was one of the main contributors to human practices in this team and has reached out to dozens of professionals in the industry to help advance his team. Outside of school he enjoys playing video games.

We would like to thank Kenneth Ng for his continued support and guidance throughout our project. Without him we truly would not have been able to make this project.
