Collaboration
We have embraced the core iGEM value of Collaboration working with the William & Mary 2021 iGEM team and their institution's SEAPhages program.
In August, we took part in the 2021 Mid-Atlantic Meetup, also hosted by William & Mary's 2021 iGEM team, and presented our project's progress at that time about bacteriophages and our future plans.
We also had the opportunity to watch other teams' presentations and receive and give feedback.
MidAtlantic Meetup Gaston Day School Slideshow Presentation
Besides the Mid-Atlantic meetup hosted by William & Mary in August, we collaborated with them on our engineering. In order to further test our 3D design, which is a “non-cylinder” graduated cylinder, or "cuboid",
for people suffering motor or visual challenges. We sent our code and file to Wiliam & Mary and their iGEM team so that they were able to print out the product, test the accuracy of it, and send us back the results.
Additionally, during the meeting with William & Mary Team members who were also in their SEAPHAGES lab, our team received very helpful suggestions about our's and their recent research,
such as alternative procedures and solutions to isolate DNA from bacteriophages. Such procedures could be used to improve future experiments if our iGEM project were to continue beyond the 2021 competition,
We also collaborated with the University of Edinburgh's iGEM 2021 team for our 3D printing design and product. We provided our code and file, they offered their 3D printing facilities to test the “cuboid,” and they
replied to us with the results. This was useful to evaluate and improve the prototype overall.
