Jonathan Chong
A natural leader who always leads by example through his hard work and curiosity for knowledge. His focus and ambition motivates the rest of the team to be more focused and efficient. Beyond his unmatched work ethic and software knowledge, he is always up for a good time and a magnet for the team through his banter sessions as he is a firm believer of tough love.
Helen Zhang
The resident 5’2 design queen of the team, Helen, more commonly known as Lil Z or H dawg, continuously proves that there are no limits when it comes to science! Through her amazing artistic skills and the incredible chemical engineering knowledge she provides for the team, Helen continues to break one glass ceiling at a time. When Helen is not breaking glass ceilings, you’ll find her lifting 5x her own weight as she not only defies societal expectations of women but also gravity!
Rigel Kent Tormon
We know him as Rigel by day, Lorde by night. During the day, Rigel’s infectious laughter along with his impeccable work ethic and drive make him a truly indispensable member of the iGEM team. At night, when Rigel is not using his chemical engineering skills to go above and beyond in his work for the iGEM team, the real party begins, as he RAWRS along to his favourite tunes and blesses us with his pitch perfect voice!
Ramin Kahidi
As the agreed upon funniest member of the team, we can always count on Ramin to crack a joke or photoshop masterpieces to lighten up the atmosphere of every team meeting. Beyond bringing laughter to the team, Ramin is also an incredibly reliable member and hardworking member of our dry lab team and applies his diverse skill sets for the success of our various subgroup initiatives.
Cedric Acierto
Voted unanimously as the number one teammate to have on their zombie apocalypse team, Cedric is a loyal, dedicated, and a handy dandy man. Along with his great work ethic and a positive attitude that brings a calming presence to any chaotic situations, Cedric is also the one-man hardware powerhouse with his strong electrical and software background.
Dewuni De Silva
A Dewuni a day keeps the bad vibes away! As the morale boost of the team, Dewuni’s infectious personality and optimism never fails to put a smile on everyone’s faces. As the youngest member on the team she is always eager to learn and never afraid to step outside of her comfort zone. As the Tiktok queen of the team you can always find her filming tiktoks or playing Yummy by Justin Bieber on repeat.
Subasthika Thangadurai
Subasthika is a one-woman machine in the team. Deeply committed and passionate about everything she does, she goes the extra mile in both iGEM tasks and social hangouts. Her love of Grey’s Anatomy is fitting as her Cristina Yang-level of drive and passion bring about all the team’s plans to fruition (not to mention that Addison Montgomery’s class and poise pale in comparison to Subasthika’s)
Arshia Mostoufi
He’s the brains of the team. His passion and curiosity motivates the team and encourages everyone to work harder. A natural born leader and scientist, Arshia always knows what next steps to take regardless of the situation. He is ready to lead the team and have a good time in the lab by playing curious george songs!
Thuy-Ann Tran
Our quietly essential measurement specialist, she stays out of the spotlight, but is extremely dedicated to her work and the team. She is smart and adaptable, and can prioritize her tasks well. She is our silent queen, but under her veil of mystery lies a kind, fun-loving, and unexpectedly spontaneous friend!
Allison Guthrie
An absolute ray of sunshine, her cheerful energy is contagious and her positive attitude keeps the wet lab going! She is extremely passionate about science and new technology. She is always optimistic and inspires everyone on the team when everyone is feeling down. We are extremely lucky to have Allison on our team!
Anika Zaman
Although she has never played Super Smash Bros (except when under duress from iGEM Calgary), she has a killer winning streak! Anika is driven and hardworking, and is a bright and positive addition to our lab. If you ever want someone to talk to or jam out to One Direction with, she’s your gal!
Simran Sandhu
As the organizational backbone of the team, Simran is the influence of order and reason that keeps us all from flying off the tracks. Despite her no nonsense ambiance, she will not hold back on her retorts and quips that make everyone laugh. Her keen eye for design ensures our team looks cohesive and aesthetic!
Dr. Mayi Arcellana-Panlilio
Dr. Mayi is warm, motherly love personified. As the heart of iGEM Calgary, she is the most dedicated, compassionate, and supportive supervisor we could ask for. She knows how to give recognition to every member of the team and create a safe place for a collaborative team environment.
Andrew Symes
He’s the resident tall boi whose spirit animal is most likely a golden retriever. Andrew has a special ability to make every person feel special, heard, and valued. His iGEM expertise is a great addition to the team and you can always rely on him and his very friendly nature.
Tammy Lu
She keeps the energy up in wet lab! Tammy is an exuberant, enthusiastic, and devoted supervisor. She’s given her heart to the team and it shows in her dedication to supporting us. She made rough days in wet lab a lot more tolerable and helped us stay organized and positive.
Sebastian Alvarez
Smart, ambitious, and passionate about his work, Seb has a wealth of experience and encouragement that makes him a valuable mentor to the team. He is always ready to provide insight to our project in any way he can. Fun fact, his hidden talent is belly dancing!
Tian Zhao
Tian is a brilliant, committed, genius of a teacher. Meetings with Tian are never really meetings -- he makes them casual conversations, so you won't be scared to ask him anything! We would never have success in the wet lab without Tian’s incredible expertise in genetics and his willingness to go the extra mile.
Chris Emond
Chris Emond is an incredible man. Along with being a biologist, poet, and lover he is also our teams volounteer RA. He is passionate in his work and you can tell from the energy he brings into the lab. The bacteria and time we cultivated with him will last with us forever.
