iGEM Bonn 2021 Biolan

Sunset

Project

The project is the core of every iGEM project. Through extensive research and the reflection of our intermediate results, we were able to deliver promising results even with restricted lab access due to the pandemic.

Project Description

Why develop a new extraction method for rare earth elements? And where is the connection to synthetic biology? In the Project Description, we try to answer those questions.

Lab Journal

Come and follow us on our journey from the first gDNA extraction to a fully functioning extraction process by reading the Lab Journal.

Implementation

With Biolan, we aimed to not only deliver a technique that is able to work under lab conditions, but instead want to implement our extraction method in real-world applications. For that, we discussed on how we want to achieve that.

Engineering Cycle

Constant reflection and improvement is essential for a successful project. Here you can see how we modified our process after gaining more insightful results.

Proof of Concept

To reach the final step of implementing the project in real-world applications a proof of concept is needed that demonstrates the suitability under realistic conditions. For that precise experiments were conducted delivering results which further substantiate that Biolan is a viable alternative to current extraction techniques.

Contributions

Each iGEM project should make a useful contribution to the iGEM community for the upcoming years. In Contributions we demonstrated how Biolan achieved that in multiple ways.
