Collaboration
Collaboration with ASeeker (Official Team Name: Shanghai_United)
We had a collaboration with a high school iGEM Team: ASeeker (Official Team Name: Shanghai_United). Their project focuses on detecting arsenic in the environment, similar to our environmental protection concept by detecting atrazine.
Collaboration Themes
Internal Communication
The team ASeeker found there had been a serious problem in their internal communication. When they started designing their final product, they noticed there had been huge differences in the understanding of their project between the wet team and the dry team. Lacking communication between the dry team and the wet team, they could not overcome the problem efficiently. But a last, they decided to have a big meeting with all of the team members and luckily they managed to confirm their final product. Although it was the first time they had this kind of conversation together, yet it did work(for their project).
Experiment Troubleshooting
Both of our two teams have experienced the failure of reactions in the experiments. Repetitive failures sometimes may make us get bored with the experiments, but we never stopped searching for the reasons that had caused our experiment failures, based on which we have been striving for better experiment results.
The Product
The team ASeeker haven't started to make a final product. So they asked for our experiences.
Our Suggestions:
The design should should be confirmed by both dry team and wet team.
The form of design piece can be various, but the form of the final piece should follow a model company’s prototype.
Resources
Because of the COVID-19 and the weather issues. We cannot do some offline interview, visits or on-site investigation. At the beginning we all worried about there’s lack of data and records in the wiki. To overcome this problem we’ve move all these activities online. By interviewing experts online and researching on the internet, we managed to obtain the data and information we need for our project.
Collaboration with IBD Distinguisher (Official Team Name: NOFLS_YZ)
The IBD Distinguisher (NOFLS_YZ) has been a Gold Medal Winner (2020) in iGEM Competition. Thereafter, we wish to consult them about their competition winning experience through the collaboration event.
This year their project focuses on development of a quick-detection method of IBD (Inflammatory bowel disease), a chronic disease seriously influencing people’s daily life. They also aim at designing biosensor to realize the detection, which is similar to our project-development of a biosensor to detect atrazine.
Collaboration Themes
Unfortunately, due to the sudden out-break of COVID-19, team IBD Distinguisher had seldom access to laboratory until our offline meet-up. Thus, so we shared our experiment progress with them and discussed our experiment habits with their team members. Meanwhile, we also expressed our best wishes to their future experiments planned in Oct.
In return, team IBD Distinguisher discussed about their future wiki preparation plan and presentation video shooting plan with us. They also shared some useful experience about preparation for judging sessions with us.
