Our team aims to develop a pathway in order to synthesize a tropane alkaloid intermediate (tropine) from an abundant precursor found in cyanobacteria using the Solanaceae derived tropane biosynthesis pathway.

Tropane alkaloids are important medicinal compounds with applications in neurochemistry, as neurotransmitter inhibitors and stimulants.
