Collaborations

The UMaryland iGEM team has been working with many other teams to advance the field of synthetic biology. Here’s some highlights of this year’s collaborations!

Mid-Atlantic Meetup

On Thursday August 5th the UMaryland iGEM team was able to virtually attend the Mid Atlantic Meetup hosted by iGEM William and Mary.

This meetup was the first time that we got to share our project with other iGEM teams. The other iGEM teams at the meetup gave us insight that we used to develop our project. For example, we discussed developing a phosphorus biosensor for our project, but at the meetup, we decided that the complexity of the biosensor would make it an inferior option to already existing solutions, such as phosphorus testing strips.

We would like to thank iGEM William and Mary for hosting! We would also like to thank Gaston Day School, Baltimore Biocrew, University of Pittsburgh, UVA, and Johns Hopkins for listening to our project ideas and offering your insights!

Storybook Collaboration

Our team was invited by iGEM Calgary to participate in the iGEM Calgary x ___ Storybook Collaboration. The goal of this collaboration was to share our projects and synthetic biology concepts in a way that kids could understand. Our team even translated our version of the storybook into different languages so that it could be shared with kids in different countries.
