ENGINEERING FOR SUCCESS

In order to successfully implement synthetic biology an engineering framework is necessary. The framework used for our project consisted of four stages: design, build, test, and learn.

During the Design stage the problem and solution are specified. For genetic circuits, the Design is made based on their intended function, construction and characterization; whereas, for modelling and framework, during the Design stage discussion is carried out and the path to follow: models to be built, areas to encompass and their depth. The Build stage of the process includes the construction of circuits, models, the framework itself and other relevant instruments. The constructs, framework and models are assessed during the Test phase. Finally, during the Learn stage the test results are analysed and reflected upon, sometimes behaving as a detonator for a new cycle.
