Collaborations
XHD-Wuhan-A-China have been active in the in-depth collaboration with other teams in the 2021 iGEM competition. We have close contact with HZAU-China, XHD-Wuhan-B-China, XHD-Wuhan-Pro-China and have received a lot of their help in return. These collaborations have played an indispensable role in our path of better completing our other teams’ projects.
Collaborations with HZAU-China
During the project, we actively contacted with HZAU-China. We are very grateful to HZAU-China for providing us with the biological material of wild type PyeaR promoter. With the support of PyeaR promoter materials provided by them, we improved the wild-type PyeaR promoter. Since they have also studied the PyeaR promoter and have more experience than us, they gave us many useful suggestions. Some of the suggestions they gave us as follow:
1. In the improvement of the promoter, the conservation of -10 and -35 regions should be maintained as far as possible, so that the function of the promoter will not be greatly changed.
2. Since this promoter is sensitive to nitrate concentration, the protein binding site region for the corresponding sensory nitrate concentration should also not be greatly modified.
3. The transcription factor binding region of the promoter can be analyzed and corresponding mutation design can be carried out in this region.
4. Try to use new technologies, including but not limited to artificial intelligence technology, CRISPR gene editing technology, etc., for intelligent design and single-base mutation of promoters.
These suggestions were very useful and benefited our project greatly.
Collaborations with XHD-Wuhan-B-China
We have a very close relationship with XHD-Wuhan-B-China, especially in the experimental cooperation. At the beginning of the experiment, we did not have a firm grasp of the experiment technology, and the experiment go wrong frequently. Moreover, because of the slow growth of our bacteria, a failure would waste a lot of time. After we asked XHD-Wuhan-B-China for help, they performed the experimental demonstration in the flesh for us. It was after their teaching that our experiments made more progress.
Collaborations with XHD-Wuhan-Pro-China
Our project was related to soil remediation and had difficulties in the beginning with the initial HP design. XHD-Wuhan-Pro-China gave us a lot of advice on HP design and questionnaire design. Their suggestions were as follow:
1. We should count the amount of economic loss caused by soil consolidation every year, so that we can increase the necessity and significance of the project.
2. We can make an evaluation of the effect of our soil improvement. If our project is put into production, then how much soil can we save and how much economic loss can we reduce?
3. An economic model could be developed to evaluate the expected revenue effect of this project. All these suggestions were very good, but due to the difficulty of implementation, especially the data collection. We didn't end up adopting it, but we still appreciated XHD-Wuhan-Pro-China for their suggestions and guidance, which provided us with new insights and ideas.
Meet up with XHD-Wuhan-B-China and XHD-Wuhan-Pro-China and HZAU-China
Due to the epidemic COVID-19, it was difficult to conduct an offline meet up. China is the country with the best epidemic control in the world. We overcame all difficulties and held an offline meet up. At the meet up, we presented our respective projects and had friendly exchanges of idea.
