Working places
All our wet lab experiments were done in Center for Synthetic Biology at Yuquan campus of Zhejiang University.
Use of microorganisms.

this is our workbench.

Safety training
We all received training including basic laboratory operations and laboratory safety from Lab veterans before we start our experiments.

Health risks
E. coli and yeast are commonly used bacteria in the laboratory for researching, editing or other experimental modifying. If we handle them properly, they would be quite safe. However, if we ingest a large quantity of cells, these microbes could also pose a health risk. To prevent any probable of infection, wearing gloves and lab coat is necessary.

All the proteins and plasmids involved in our experiments are totally harmless to human body. Meanwhile, none of our parts would raise any safety issue according to the current expertise.

Acetonitrile, which is toxic and highly volatile, was used as the mobile phase for HPLC, we handled it in the fume hood with masks and gloves on.

DNA gel electrophoresis is performed in a specially contaminated area because of the carcinogenicity of ethidium bromide. Plastic gloves are required to operate on this workbench, and all appliances on this workbench are dedicated.

Waste disposal
According to the regulations of the laboratory, we would classify the solid, liquid and volatile organic liquid wastes generated in the experiment, sending them to the designated place of our university for special treatment. Meanwhile, laboratory safety officers of our university strictly supervise each operation done by our team.
