Collaboration with Team NCTU_Formosa

We have conducted a collaboration meeting with the Team NCTU_Formosa. During the meeting, the teams first presented their project idea and current process to each other. During the Q&A session, the students raised some constructive questions and suggestions. NCTU_Formosa is a distinguished team which consists of only 8 students. They stated that the reason of their success is the strong motivation of each member, as well as the simplified project goal. Since it is the first time for our university to participate in iGEM, we are still exploring the way to conduct an iGEM product and our progress was quite slow. They encouraged us to present our project idea confidently, and explain how the future steps are going to be implemented. Noticing that as a newcomer, we are troubled by wiki development and uploading our data to the wiki page, they also provided us with some useful tips. We also offer suggestions on how to better present the project and to engage the audiences.

Public Engagement

To engage with the alumni in our university, we organized an outreach event where we presented our project and shared ideas, as well as promoted iGEM and encouraged all those interested in synthetic biology to join our team. Our purpose was not only to disclose our progress and examine the possible impact and reach of our work, but also to expose students and teachers from different academic areas to the wonders of synthetic biology. We also discussed the limitations that we are currently facing and how we plan on continuing to improve our design, opening the door to the more knowledgeable members of our public to talk to us and share their ideas. At the end of the event, we presented the blueprints for how to plan an innovative project like this one from ground zero and teased our next year project, as well as hosted a Q&A session for those who wanted to learn more.
