Team:Fudan/Communication

The purpose of our communication this year is "wider geographical coverage and wider age range". We earnestly ensured more communication with the elderly and children groups that the past iGEM teams haven't often communicated with and combined the knowledge of synthetic biology with our listener's life to entail more fun in the educating process. Also, we attended this year's CCiC8 conference and made a project report, and we also popularized the subject knowledge of synthetic biology to middle school students in remote areas. Last but not least, we impart synthetic biology to freshmen in Fudan University while introducing our project to them.

We attended the CCiC conference in China. At the conference, our team members showed our project concept, gene circuit, product design principle, modeling formula, etc. We fully communicated with other teams to help each other and solve problems together. Finally, we also won the best presentation and other awards at this CCiC conference.

# A lecture for the elderly

We went to the University of the Elderly to introduce the knowledge of synthetic biology and our project to the elderly. In the process of education, we first guided the elderly to imagine their life and biology-related content, and then we introduced the knowledge of synthetic biology to them in detail. We also had many interactions with the elderly and deepened their understanding of synthetic biology from our answers. We also introduced our project to the elderly, so that we can further popularize the knowledge of synthetic biology combined with the project. Finally, we asked the elderly to fill out a questionnaire to investigate their learning of synthetic biology. The results showed that our education effect was very good.

We got in touch with the "sunshine house" in the community and introduced the knowledge of synthetic biology and our project-related information to children with intellectual disabilities. By personifying the knowledge of synthetic biology and combining it with life reality, we brought these children a rich and interesting lecture on synthetic biology. At the beginning of the lecture, we asked the children to describe the biology in their hearts. The children's paintings were full of rich imagination and a lively atmosphere. Then we showed the children the beauty of synthetic biology through lectures and videos. Finally, the children gained richly from it and wished them more and more beautiful life in the future.

In cooperation with Fudan University's "Fumeng Qinghai" practice team and the Chinese University of Hong Kong's "women" practice team, we brought a lecture on synthetic biology to the children of Huangzhong No. 1 middle school in Xining City, Qinghai Province through online and offline combination. We combined high school biology textbooks with the expansion of synthetic biology knowledge to bring them DNA and RNA related to high school biology, Protein, and other related biological knowledge so that they can feel the current strength of synthetic biology and the bright future.

We also participated in the activities of many associations in Fudan University and popularized the knowledge of iGEM to the majority of teachers and students. On the site, we made models of gene elements such as promoter, ribosomal binding site, terminator, and enhancer. Students can learn about synthetic biology by simulating gene circuits. At the same time, In the game, we also introduced the brief introduction of the iGEM competition, so that students can have a better understanding of synthetic biology and iGEM competition.
