OUR INSTRUCTORS
Miguel Ángel Medina
PhD in Biological Sciences (1989). Professor of Biochemistry and
Molecular Biology at the UMA since 2009. Member of Molecular
Bases of Cell Proliferation and Rare Diseases. More than 150
research articles and 50 teaching and dissemination articles.
Antonio Heredia
Professor of Biochemistry and Biology. Degree and PhD in
Chemistry from the University of Malaga. He carried out
post-doctoral research studies in the United States at Michigan
State University. He directs the Research Group on Synthesis and
Characterisation of Plant Biopolymers at the Faculty of Science
of the UMA.
OUR PRIMARY AND SECONDARY PI
Carlos Rodríguez Caso
PhD Associate professor in the Department of Molecular Biology
and Biochemistry at the University of Malaga. Member of
Molecular Bases of Cell Proliferation and Rare Diseases. His
scientific career spams a multidisciplinar trajectory with
contributions in the field of systems biology, synthetic biology
and complexity. From a systems biology view he has worked in
cancer, tissue homeostasis, evolution, genetics, metabolism and
artificial life with contributions in the field of physics using
complex networks theory for the study of complex systems. In the
last years, from a synthetic biology approach, with an
engineering perspective, I have combined both theory and
experiments to study the principles of design of genetic
circuits and cell computation.
Manuel Bernal Muñoz
PhD and Researcher in the Department of Molecular Biology and
Biochemistry at the University of Malaga. Member of Molecular
Bases of Cell Proliferation and Rare Diseases
OUR COLLABORATORS
Enrique Vigueras
Professor at the University of Malaga in the Department of Cell
Biology, Genetics and Physiology. His research focuses on the
study of the genetic and molecular basis of the so-called
"dynamic mutations". He is the coordinator of a genotyping
platform at the UMA aimed at identifying and diagnosing changes
in the DNA of biological samples. He is also the main
coordinator of the scientific dissemination activity "Encuentros
con la Ciencia" (Encounters with Science).
Rodrigo Ledesma
PhD at the University of Salamanca under the supervision of
Prof. Jose Luis Revuelta, the head of the metabolic engineering
group. He coursed an MSc in Microbial Biotechnology at the
Universidad Autonoma de Madrid and two undergraduate degrees
(Biotechnology and Chemical Engineering) at the University of
Salamanca. During his PhD, Rodrigo was a visiting researcher at
Prof. Jens Nielsen's group at Chalmers University of Technology
(Sweden), at Prof. Jean-Marc Nicaud at INRA (France) and at
Prof. Kamisaka's group at AIST (Japan). After the PhD, he moved
to France thanks to an Agreenskills Marie Curie Fellowship and
he performed his postdoc in the group of Jean-Marc Nicaud. Most
of his postdoctoral research work was done in the oleaginous
yeast Yarrowia lipolytica. He has experience in organizing
international conferences and teaching courses, in editorial
activities for several publishing groups and in supervising and
evaluating students, projects and researchers. He also has
worldwide collaborations in both academia and industry.
Juan Aguilar
Doctor of Fine Arts. Professor and researcher.

Carlos Vivar
Graduate in Biology from the University of Malaga, where he also completed a master's degree in Cognitive Sciences. He has worked in the Department of Bioinformatics at the UMA and in the Department of Computational Neuroscience at the Institut National de l'Inria, in France. He was the main coordinator in "Impaciencia", a cultural project of the Junta de Andalucía, and later he worked at the University of Minnesota in electrophysiology. Currently and for more than 3 years, he has been working in the neurosciences laboratory of the
University of Lausanne.
