Developing a transversal project based on circular economy to transform a residual source into a source of creativity and expression using synthetic biology. Furthermore, we involve different stakeholders in our whole process.

INSPIRATION

ATG “All Together Growing” is a transversal student association that represents the first iGEM team of the University of Malaga (UMA). We studied for several months local problems with worldwide impact that could be faced through synthetic biology.

Andalusia, our region, is the main producer of olive oil in the world, named “liquid gold” for its great taste and health benefits

Nevertheless, when cooking with vegetable oils several toxic by-products are generated, which are harmful to our health as well as to the environment if it is not recycled properly

Additionally, Malaga is an incipient world reference in art and entrepreneurship, so we decided to combine it with science to create an exciting bio-entrepreneurial project.
